How many miles on your A3?

Now that I have no choice but to replace my 2.0T engine I wonder if I am just installing another ticking time bomb.

Who has high miles on these with no issues? I'm hoping this is still a 'keeper' but I cannot help but wonder.

    Thanks all.

    I have 170,000.

These engine have allot of hidden issues that arise and if missed can kill the motor.

Mine had two bad fuel injectors...zero warning, no CEL, combined with boost...could of destroyed the motor if it was not found.

I have been contemplating an electric car.

No gas. No oil. No emissions.

    Only have to buy tires.

I have already have solar on my house.

I have 148000 on mine. Just replaced second thermostat. I do all of the maintenance so I keep eyes on things as they come. The last was seized wastegate actuator. Overall happy with the 8V. I had 8P with 260k before this one. I also have another 8P with 178k miles

Thanks, that gives me hope that I just had a random bad engine. I stay on top of all the maintenance as well and this just 'went' with zero warning at all. I had planned on keeping the car for some time and I suppose now that I have made this investment in the new engine I'll stick with that plan.

I think VW/Audi could of made the ECU better on the early 2015-2016 models with more CEL warnings for things that were detrimental to the engine. Audi waited for the 2018+ models...

The A3 models are on the bottom end of Audi's line and Audi is totally into making customers pay for the higher up models more and better features.

Like every other automaker...they are in it to make profits.

My mechanic believes that the injector on cylinder 4 was running lean for some time causing excess heat in the cylinder and ultimately the failure. He also said the same, that should have thrown some kind of code earlier to warn of the condition. Seems they allowed for a broader range of conditions prior to the later years and this would have thrown a code on the newer models.

Correct Fueling is critical in these engines.

I had 2 bad injectors...zero CEL warning...and Audi never once sent me anything saying the injectors had been updated many times for issues...

They keep it a quiet so they could make allot of money fixing cars of unsuspecting owners.

The A3/S3 has Simos 18...which from what I have heard needs regular updates like Windows on computers...especially when replacing certain computer controlled parts.

Long gone are cars you buy and drive for 10 years and zero computer updates needed.

One more way dealership can take your money for maintenance items.
