    Shifting and RPM inconsistencies

2010 S5 4.2 automatic trans, I love this car save one thing. Anytime I’m in drive mode the car shifts from 1st to 2nd gear so quickly that the rpm drop into the 2nd gear slugs the car so bad. This may be just an efficiency thing.
The thing that is really stumping me is once in second gear, the car will rev to about 2500 rpm stop then continue up the rpm’s before shifting. This happens in manual and drive mode and the only remedy I have found is shifting later in manual mode from 1st gear in order to skip that area of the rpm band. This happens under consistent throttle application and drives me insane. Is there some kind of tuning or programming that can remedy this? Sometimes in third gear under consistent throttle the rpm’s will drop 1000 revolutions and then go back up without shifting up…
I love this car but this is driving me nuts. Looking for some advice, anything is appreciated.

I don't 100% know the answer to your issue, but I have a 2010 S5 4.2 V8 w/ S-Tronic Auto Trans (145K miles) and can offer my experience in the hope it may help. My trans seems to operate properly though it does seem to delay shifts (up and/or down) at part throttle sometimes, especially when cold. I was also getting some surging in Reverse while backing uphill, and a shop that specializing in Euro Imports mentioned it could be related to the clutches and/or the fluid. I performed a VERY thorough Carbon Clean on the Engine at 142K (Intake Ports were absolutely Spotless!), and as part of that service, I also found that the PCV on the back of the Intake Manifold was not properly connected, which 'may' have contributed to surging issue as well, but I'm not really sure. Regardless, I have not had any of that surging occur since. The Trans Fluid has probably been changed twice (at least once based on a receipt provided by a previous owner, and probably twice as an Audi Dealer did perform the 35K Service), but some of the service history (35K - 100K) is unknown. It was last changed at 117K though I'm unsure if the correct/recommended fluid was used. I purchased the car with 132K on it and I my original plan was to change the Trans Fluid & Filter at 175K, and maybe sooner if the Surging in Reverse returns, however I recently purchased JHM Race Pipes and Downpipes along with a Stage 2 Tune (which flashes the ECU and TCU), so I'm now planning to change the trans fluid/filter when I've got the car in the air to do the requisite exhaust work, just prior to the Stage 2 Tune. Anyway, some questions for you that might help me, or others more Audi knowledgeable than me, fully understand the condition of your S5:

How many miles on the Odometer?
How long have you had the S5, and/or are the Shifting/RPM inconsistencies a recent change you're experiencing w/ your S5?
Has a Carbon Clean ever been done on the car, and if so, how many miles ago?
Are you experience the Shifting/RPM inconsistencies when the S5 is cold, or all the time?
Has the Trans been serviced to replace the Fluid/Filter and if so, how many miles ago?

On thing I know for sure, is that my S5 likes to be driven deliberately, so the more aggressively I drive it, the better it feels/shifts/runs...And it runs REALLY well!
If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !!
