Recently purchased a 2021 Audi RS7 with the carbon optic package, so it has the 22" black and machined-faced rims. I bought the car used from a private, non-Audi dealership. It only had 5,000 miles on it and it came with the remainder of the factory warranty. After I purchased the car, I noticed some peeling on the two driver side rims. There are no issues with the two passenger side rims. Upon close inspection, I saw that there are some areas on the two rims where a metallic silver paint was put on the rims. It's not on the entire face of the rims, as about 90% of the rims have no silver paint on them and you can see the machined lines/machined face. I used my fingernail and was able to flake off quite a bit of the silver paint, and there was no damage or scratches under the paint. As the silver paint gets closer to the edge of the rim, it gets thicker and I can't flake it off. Paint remover didn't help, either.
I have no idea why the silver paint is on there. And like I said, it's only on a few areas on two of the four rims. I've attached pictures. I guess it's possible that the rims were scratched before I bought it and touched up, and the silver touch up paint didn't bond right and now it's coming off. But underneath the silver paint that I was able to remove, there are no scratches or damage and I can see the original machined lines. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do? The silver paint is driving me crazy. I really don't want to have to buy two new 22" Audi RS7 rims, because I know they are going to be expensive. I called a wheel repair business and sent them pictures. They said they can essentially strip the rims of all of its paint/finish, and re-paint and re-finish them. That makes me nervous. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
