Selling either one: B8 S-Line Avant or B8.5 S4. Conflicted!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Thinking about selling either one of my Audis:

    -2012 B8 A4 S-Line Avant (Sport package, 034 e85 Stage 1, HR Springs)

    or

    -2013 B8.5 S4 (034 Stage 1 ECU & TCU Tune, S34 Intake, 034 Dynamic Springs)

I am conflicted, I love them both, but can't keep them both due to storage issues. I love my Avant due to it's rarity and my love for wagons, but of course lacks in performance. The S4 has the performance, but doesn't have the specialty factor of the Avants.

If you were me, which one would you sell or keep?

I'd keep the S4. Rarity won't put a smile on your face like the performance of the supercharged V6 will.

But.. if you think you'll have space again in the future and want to re-buy either of these cars, then I would keep the A4 as it would probably be harder to find another one.

I really don’t think the b8.5 falls into that category. They seem to be a pretty solid car. Occasionally you may do a thermostat or occ but they seem really reliable otherwise.

    This.

You keep an s4 for the manual transmission. If not it's just another quick automatic.

I mean, I don't think I want a manual in an Audi. I also have a flex fuel tuned 18 STI and their MTs are pretty bullet proof and solid. If it's an Audi, I think I would rather keep it an AT especially on the B8-B8.5s. platform.

A subi MT feels like it’s made out of legos.
You’ll get the same answers here as you did on Reddit; swap them and find a MT or sell them, neither are especially rare.

Appreciate your inputs, but I don't want a manual at this time, so I don't really care for them. Thank you.

Bring them 600 miles north and pay me to s4 swap your avant. Best of both worlds.

Guess I'll just keep my Avant for a future swap then 😁

How much for a swap? Been think long and hard about doing this. Ball parking it is fine.
Life has taught me never try to make something idiot proof, they'll simply come up with a better idiot.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.
I have neither the time, nor the crayons to explain this to you properly.

2 cars dropped off? A whole lot less then 25k. Is that they buy the swap doner or just there fee I wonder?

Less then half and Id be in. Depends on options and turn around time. Not gonna low ball myself but if someone wants to really talk turkey Id talk.

Yeah, if I'm providing two cars honestly 25k seemed to be a bit too much.

im sure if you brought one or the other car it would be maybe a little cheaper...

    s4 engine is like $5-$7k?
high mileage avant chassis maybe $8-10k
misc parts and labor is gonna be the majority of the cost.

Need two cars. Preferably a clean or rear ended s4. With all the vin coded modules it would be a nightmare to find exact matches, and then there is all the smaller misc. parts that need to swap like the diff, axels, radiator, heat exchanger, exhaust, diffuser etc. Lots of little things that are sometimes free/cheap, but can also be crazy expensive and add up.

I personally wouldn't touch it if someone just bought s4 parts. Troubleshooting nightmare and would be endlessly delayed when parts didnt have fastners or had damaged connectors, didnt work, or flat were overlooked.

My dual pulley avant never fails to shock people and having been in some stage 3 2.0t a4s the powerband is so much nicer. Did a few pulls with a b8 sedan last week and he immediatly tuned into the SC wine and asked what was going on under the hood.

Best car decision I ever made giving up on the 2.0t. Would have been better-er if the s4 doner had been a 6mt but the deal was too good to pass up and the dsg while tempremental shifts lightning fast.
