    Dropping voltage 1volt at Tv22 Audi Q5 2009.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Is it possible to have a new 35mm2 cable between alternator and Tv22 connection block direct to reducing the voltage drop . The cable between alternator and the starter is the problem of the voltage dropp -1volt. And Audi would like to charge me 2000 euro for the job. Or is it possible to burn relays over time with this idea. Im looking forward on good coments on this.

Thank you for the information on this topic. I will order a new alternator cable. I must isolate the old alternator cable at the alternator and mount the new cable from the alternator to TV22. Here is the old alterator cable.IMG_1013.jpg

Oh, so a 2.0 TDI. Wasn't sure what engine you were working with. The V6 have the alternator down under the right side. Definitely a much easier fix with a 4-cyl. Congrats on the DIY.

It seems to work super well.

    1. Have you had any more problems with your old alternator cable that is still connected at the other end.

    2. Have there been any other problems with the car's electricity since you did this work?

No, everything is fine, other than the normal issues of aging electronics and wiring. I wrapped the old alternator cable end up in rubber and electrical tape and zip tied it to the side. Been a non issue since.

I think the electronics in my J367 or my J533 have aged such that they are reading the car voltage too low. My battery would be 12.4/12.5 V but my measuring values are reporting 12.1/12.2 V. I've already confirmed the voltage is fine at the plug into the devices. But I guess after 14 years, a few problems are to be expected.

But the voltage drop from alternator to battery is now back to acceptable range, a few tenths of a volt.

Hello. The car now charges 14v which is good. But something drains the batteries when the car is left standing for a few days. Maybe the car doesn't go into sleep mode because of something. Any ideas on this?.IMG_2868.jpg

Not sure what all those screen caps are suppose to convey. You have VCDS, run the autoscan, save (not print) the log to a file, post the file content here so it can be seen.

You could have some device keeping the car awake, not uncommon. A failed amp unit can keep rewaking bringing back up the infotainment bus members, etc. Another had a problem with the electromechanical steering rack that kept waking the car systems back up.

The normal approach is to start by manually latching the doors and trunk and waiting a few hours and then measuring the voltage drop across all the fuses on both ends of the dash and the right rear of the trunk and converting those to current flow (scalar varies with fuse type and size; voltage drop fuse charts are on the internet) and trying to what fuses are still supplying substantial current flow when everything should be asleep.

You have a LIN bus failure for the LIN bus that connects the voltage regulator, battery monitor, and energy management control module. So before supposing a parasitic drain (and I already discussed how one normally starts with that, testing the fuses after the car sleeps to see what's still pulling power), you need to fix that. A broken charging system management system is not going to help your cause.

Is the plug plugged into the alternator, and the plug on the battery negative plugged in? If you unplug both and measure resistance from the pin 1 violet/blue to pin 1 violet/blue, what do you get? The connection at the J533 is pin 2 on the 20-pin plug. So you'd ideally get a low resistance measurement between any of the three pins, as it's a bus wire with all three connected to it.

Test on the lin bus going on seems to be fine with 0 ohm. And voltage in sleep mode with the trunk open and lights off 12,2volt.

The car system voltage is 14volt . Im having alot of charging problems over the years with 4 pcs of new car batteries within 5 years and alot of problems with programing new BEM codes into the cars computer. In vcds it says the memory is full could it be a softwere problem ?. And the old alternator cable is still not connected to the alternator only to the starter. Please se pictures at the beginning of the topic.

You already posted a full scan showing you have errors from the CAN Gateway. "check DTC memory" = "see if you have codes". And the CAN Gateway has codes, it says it cannot manage the alternator or battery voltage because the LIN bus that connects them is failed. That's the only thing you need to be working on in regards to the charging system on that vehicle right now. As long as the J533 cannot interact with the VR or the J367, you will have charging system problems.

I wouldn't take "0Ω" as a good reading, unless maybe it's rounding down. I'd expect something more like 1Ω or 2Ω. But something is clearly wrong with the LIN bus line. You need to figure out what. The wire from all three devices is going to be spliced together. You need to test all three pins against each other and figure out who isn't talking to who.

    J533 pin 3 > T17e pin 15 side a
    J367 pin 1 > T17e pin 15 side b
    VR pin 1 > T17r pin 11 > T17e pin 15 side b

So things seem to come together at plug T17e, which is the red 17-pin plug at the base of the driver's side a-pillar, the big connector station with multiple 17-pins and some fuses.
T17r is the white 17-pin in the ECM box. This is where the wire from the VR plug passes into the ECM box and then the T17r plug, where the other half connects to the interior harness that carries on to the T17e plug.

That all said, the timestamp on those DTCs are months ago, with only a fault frequency of 1. Clear all DTCs and see if they come back. That VCDS version is old, too.

I already mentioned what needs to be done on the battery drain issue. You have to isolate where the current is flowing when the car should otherwise be sleeping. The quickest route to that, assuming the issue is downstream from a fuse, is to measure the voltage drop across all the fuses and see which converts to a high current flow. youtu.be/lRcj1fQcWwU

redir fail is just a VCDS label file issue. B8.5 A4 had this forever until they finally fixed it. Notice how all the other modules have a .clb label file. All you can do here is log your scan to the ross-tech support and see if they fix the missing or mismatched file.

Yesterday, my car almost stalled (stopped )when I was going to work. And the volts stepped from 13v to 14v as it should. Before this happened it has been 14v constant in 6 mounth from when I start the car until I turn it off. so the battery management system is working right now. But I will measure voltage in sleeping mode with a clamp meter with DC current measurement. It is easy to lock the doors and look through the windows at the clamp meter in the trunk Whats going on. It should be interesting how much current that will drain the car battery in sleeping mode.

I did some more Vcds tests before I bought a Clamp DC meter. I need help/input to evaluating all Vcds data.

19 can gateway 007 test have an error code 59. I dont know what that means ?.

Battery sensor comunication status group 006 = BDM 0. Shouldnt that be BDM 1?.

61 battery regulator = no response from controller?.

So something isnt right i belive. Any ideas on this?.

Why are you trying to access 61? There's no such thing on a B8. Stick to the control modules under Installed and Installed 2, ie the ones the CAN Gateway says actually exist on your vehicle.

I have no idea what measuring block 007 for the J533 is reporting. My error code is 221. I have no reason to presume it's related to measuring block 006. Measuring block 006 is Generator 1 and BDM 1 for me. Do you have values in measuring blocks 014 and 018? Does 015 report any faults? Note, 014 and 015 are about the generator, so the values are not meaningful unless the engine is running.

I don't know of any resources for interpreting the error codes in measuring block 007.

In 018 there is no data at all. It's strange because it should be an error code at least ?.

Yeah, it should say Not OK (engine off) or OK (engine on). You seem to have values in 014; voltage always has something but that you have the field signal and field current and response time, the communication seems to be there.

But like 015, your 018 is empty. I notice in both cases, they are the third group. Is the situation the same if you put 015 and 018 in the first group? The values for 006 were with it also in the third group.

That VCDS version is old. Bring it up to date?

There is a fault in J367 today (Battery sensor) Maybe thats why there are no data in 014 015 018 ? What Do you think ?.
