Front License Plate Mount - How is it attached?

I can't see where one would drill into on an RS grill to secure the OEM mount, so I'm hoping there's a way to secure it that doesn't cause permanent damage ???

Hoping that if I buy a used RS5 with a mount installed, that I don't have to buy a replacement grille.

    Thanks!

Unfortunately, it's screwed right into the grill. If you took it off, the grill would have pilot holes drilled in it.

I can't speak for the B9.5 cars, but for the B9, there are two threaded holes in the front bumper that you can use to screw in the license plate holder. You would use regular machine screws, not self-tapping screws. On my early build B9 the threaded inserts are painted black. I think on later ones they're unpainted brass.

Thanks both...the threaded screw holes are in the crash bar behind the mesh, I assume? I think I see them in pictures - I'd thought those were sensors, and wondered how the mount in front was not an issue.

There are parking sensors in the grill. The threaded holes in my B9 are in the center of the crash bar in the solid portion of the grill. Looking at the car dead on you can see them.

edit - Here's a picture of someone else's front bumper where you can see the mounting holes. On this one it looks like they're plastic inserts that would need a self-tapping screw. Maybe that was done on later builds as a cost cutting measure instead of the threaded brass inserts. Click on the image to enlarge it.
