    Door electronics/functions 'reversed'

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Reference : Audi A4 B7 (RHD)

    Hi everyone.

I've recently got my car back from the paint shop and had noticed that some of the electronic functions were 'reversed' - Example :

(Front-Left) puddle light works when the (Rear-Left) door is opened, and the (Rear-Left) puddle light works when the (Front-Left) door is opened.

Additionally, the same effect is occurring with the footwell lights, and window switches.

Any help/ideas on fixing the aforementioned issue would be greatly appreciated.

Why not take it back to the paint shop and have them fix it ??

Check the wire that connects the door to the car, they are often broken.

I've done that, unfortunately they couldn't locate the issue; additionally, they had also questioned whether the fault was present before I had booked the car in for a respray - so in essence, they're not willing to provide further assistance in any way.

Thank you for your response, I had removed the gaiter/grommet on both affected doors and examined the connectors/wires - everything is in place.

All of the door electrics are functional; however, the car isn't recognising which door is being opened... I'm genuinely stumped on this one!

Try a re- set. Take neg battery term off, turn on headlight switch to drain any off any remaining power . Let car sit for a while then re connect battery term and see.

I had done that previously, no change.

Seems like I'd have to locate a reputable auto-electrical shop and make a booking, I think that it would be my only option at this point.

    Appreciate your help though!

okay so you never really did adress that question they had . that was a valid question. did it have the issue or or not before you took it in.. honesty goes a long way here .
if it did fair enough. but if it didn't it was something they did .. next question is what did they respray ??

Apologies for not elaborating on that part.

The car did NOT have the issue when I had dropped it off at the paint shop...* I'm well aware of the concept of honesty and I value it in many ways... so please take my word on this!

I had booked the car for a colour change from Brilliant Black, to Misano Red.

I'm certain that the following parts had been taken off the car during the process:

    Front and rear bumper
    Front fenders/wings
    All exterior lights
    Bonnet/hood
    Boot/trunk lid
    Mirrors
    Door handles
    Door panels
Other conflicting interior trim pieces - (Minor)

The major interior pieces was not removed - (seats, dashboard, roof lining, and carpet).

The engine bay was not painted, as well as the spare wheel well.

That's pretty much all I know with regards to the paint job - (upon inspection, and personal instructions).

Since door panels were removed, is it possible they plugged Front Left and Rear Left door harnesses into the wrong central module ports when putting things back together?

yup that we have this added information it should be easier... you are looking now something crossed over on connection. manufacturers are generally good at putting engineering controls in for that .

i agree with above post. first thing I would be doing is getting a meter and the door covers off.

That's solid information, and it seems to be the most probable cause of the issue!

Do you have an idea of the exact location of the central module?
