    Audio upgrade questions

Hi guys, I'm in the process of putting new door speakers in, I got factory speakers from the junkyard and will cut them out to use the housings to have a factory mount and use of the harness. I just want a little bit of bass to enjoy music and found on another forum the Pioneer TS-W260D4 sub is a free air sub which will be ideal for where I want to mount it. if I want to install a subwoofer in place of the 8" factory sub on the back shelf of my audi a4 do I need a separate Amp or will the factory Amp be enough to power this sub?

If I have to add an Amp, can someone explain how to wire it in? Do I use the power from the harness going into the original sub and put that into the Amp for line in and use speaker wire to go from the Amp to the sub? Will it work like the factory sub then? Or do I still need a remote wire? Power and ground are easy since the battery is right there.

I have a non B&O system with nav and the full mmi, but I'm sure I have an Amp still in the trunk.

Sorry I'm new to audio upgrades this complicated

What does the unit in the dash above the climate controls say? Audi cd changer or Audi multimedia (you say you have navigation, so it won't be Audi concert or Audi symphony).

If it says cd changer, you must have a 2009, so you have MMI 2G, so you'll have the radio and the amp in the left rear.
If it says multimedia (and has the SD slots), you must have a 2010+, so you have MMI 3G. MMI 3G without B&O does not have an external amp. It uses the amp channels integrated into the radio unit in the left rear.

With MMI, there are no pre-amp signals on copper to intercept. You can take the speaker outputs from the amp (be it the standalone J525 or integrated into the R) and run them into a high input converter to pass to an amp or high level inputs on an amp.

With the simple project of a new subwoofer on the rear deck, start with the factory sub wiring and see how it sounds. If you need more, take the sub wires off the sub and run them into an amp with hi inputs or into a hi/lo converter to an amp and run that amp to the sub.

Thanks for the reply! It says Audi Multimedia and has 2 sd card slots.

It's a 2016 a4. When I tap the wires from the plug going to the factory sub, any suggestions of what type of wire to use to connect to the aftermarket sub?

I am used to using speaker wire from the Amp to the sub.

It's a speaker level signal, but going into a high level input on an electronics device instead of a speaker, it shouldn't pass much current. Still, if you have speaker wire around, I'd just use that to keep it consistent that this is wire on the output of an amp channel.

Awesome thank so much. I'll order the sub and give it a go and see how it turns out
