    Power Steering Options

90% certain my rack is leaking, dumps a reservoir full of fluid in about 15 minutes. I don't think it's the return hose like how it is for most others (the boot on the rack is wet on the driver-side).

First time I've ever had to deal with power steering on this car in 5 years of ownership (I'm honestly surprised it didn't go bad sooner). I wanted to ask what options I have here because I don't have $1000+ to spend on a new P/S rack.

Is it possible to re-seal the original rack without special tools?

Is it possible to simply run a shorter accessory belt and skip the power-steering all together? (improvised power-steering delete)

Are used P/S racks worth buying/trying?

    Thanks in advance!

I went through all this, repkaced mine like 3 times. From my experience, id either spend the money for a factory rebuilt Bosch/ZF rack, or buy a used oem one. I bought a BBB/Vision OE off rockauto for $400+, and kasted 9 months. Replaced under warranty, lasted 1yr. Got one from junkyard, been good since(over a year). The BBB racks were genuine, but shit parts used for rebuild I'm guessing. All were blown end seals, which you can't replace yourself, far as ive seen. Did a lot of research, and couldn't find any kits for b7 racks.

It's a god damn tragedy you can't replace the seals yourself.

Looks like Junkyard or P/S delete is the way to go then, the rebuilt ZF is backordered on ECS for $1200... Thanks for the advice! I'll see what I can find.

$650 + $350 core at FCP. Still pricey. $40ish at junkyard.
