    AJL engine code

Hi there, just wondering if there is an engine code that is similar or the same as AJL? I have the Australian AJL 180hp 1.8t and whenever I enquire about performance parts for it no one stocks anything. It has the external water pump.
    Thankyou.

Yes its a 058 180PS DBC engine. Highest HP output of the 1.8T in a longitudinal application in the B5 in RDW market.

The only main difference is the head part number(and associations) and higher mapping in ECU software.

So if I look for DBC parts instead of AJL I'll find the parts I need that will fit?
What about ECU software upgrades? Same?
    Thankyou.

Certain parts might be specific but thats down to the 'upgrades' vs other types, what exactly are you looking for?

I had a look at their website but can't find actual products or prices. Do they make a handheld or Bluetooth scanner? I don't use laptops or pc.

Okay thankyou, the website just sent me around in circles and wouldn't show the products prices etc.
I'm just after a hand held unit to read and clear codes.

From my (limited) looking, OBDEleven should work for you. You may now get all of the fancy gizmos and gadgets and live data, but you should be able to read and delete codes just fine.

VCDS will always be your best bet. If you plan on spending any length of time with this car, it’s likely worth it to get a cheap Windows laptop and generic VCDS cable.

Thanks, I was looking at a Bluetooth OBDEleven last night from a UK store but the in app purchases put me off. I've spent almost 10k on the car already so I plan on keeping it, investing in a laptop sounds like the go. Would you recommend Ross tech for laptop use or something else?

The In-App purchases really isn’t relevant for those of us with older vehicles. You do NOT need to purchase any credits for basic read/delete functionality. It allows for super easy recording for newer vehicles for things such as changing the lighting characteristics, how many blinks for the lane change blinkers, etc. but I don’t think there even are any built in to the app for the B5. At least not for my ‘98.
