    Unitronic stage 2 wastegate rattle

    I have enjoyed stage 1+ it’s a good tune. I went to stage 2 with scorpion race cats as I didn’t want excessive noise or wastegate rattle. The performance is exceptional for a couple of bolt ons but I massively regret going stage 2. The rattling is pure embarrassing and just down right annoying. I know the 8v2 has been out for 5 years now so this isn’t anything new. But I wish I’d known how bad the rattle was and either stayed stage 1+ or found another tuner. To me it’s not acceptable to live with. I think I’ve ruined the car. After spending 2k on software I’m going to have to find another tuner. Pretty disappointed Unitronic seemed to be one of the only tuners who won’t patch the WG rattle out. I’ve lost count how many times someone has said to me what’s wrong with your car, or is it broken. Reached out to UT and they said they can’t help.
    Probably wouldn’t use Unitronic again.

    DS1 will gladly take your $, have Darin at DoubleT tuning make you a custom file with whatever features you want for a few hundred dollars (not including the price of the DS1)
    Stage 1 more than you RS3

    Thumbs up for DS1 and a custom tune. Nothing to say about Darin but my tuner has been awesome if you need suggestions.

    DS1 on Darin's tune here, too. Granted I'm not stage 2 but, when I had Unitronic Stage 2, I absolutely hated my wastegate rattle and was constantly rolling around with my exhaust valves closed to help muffle that. Now, with DS1 on Darin's tune, I have absolutely no wastegate rattle and I actually enjoy my exhaust note again.

    Slightly off topic, but does anyone with DS1 have a hardwired P3 v3 gauge? Does it still work with DS1 plugged into the OBD2?

    I think it can be done with no issues, but the VC E content and p3 read differently I have heard.

    I am wondering this as well. Even if it can be done, would it be worth still using the p3 v3 gauge?

    I have a '21 TTRS and really wanted the pre '19 raspy exhaust tone with some OEM pops/bangs. Do you think this can be something Darin can do? Regardless, I'm making the switch to DS1 and double D anyway. Just wasn't sure what else he could customize besides tuning the ECU.

    The OTS 034 Motorsport tunes do not have the rattle.

    I don't use it for ethanol, so to me it would still be used for boost, iats, etc. I think the only way I'd ditch the P3 is if I moved to DS1 with the Btres gauge.

    Yes Darin can do that, I’ve seen pops and bangs, free rev in park, exhaust valves fully open in Sport mode, wastegate rattle fix, etc, etc
    Stage 1 more than you RS3

    I recall stage1 tunes being mostly rattle free.

    WG rattle can't be 100% eliminated... low load you won't hear it but sometimes when you transition into higher load you may hear it briefly.

    I have the 034 DP waiting in my basement and the uni stg 2 software. I'm hoping the rattle is not obscene.

    I've been under the impression, maybe right, maybe wrong, that a cast DP with cat in stock location will help mask the rattle.

    I do think making weird noises is part of the 5 cylinder appeal. Driving my car home from the dealership at purchase, the WG made a racket inside the dealership walls.

    I have the 034 catted DP behind my TTE700 on Unitronic and there is zero wastegate rattle, for whatever that's worth.

    I bought the 034 dp for the same reason and from what I can tell I made the right decision. For a short time I had the VVL mod done to my tune and that made my car sound like shit but after it was removed my exhaust note sounded great again.

    It doesn't matter what DP... It's locking the WG closed that gets rid of the rattle. I have the Uni DP with stock mids and it sounds like a tractor if I leave it open.

    I just tuned out the rattle at idle and low load where it bothers me the most.
