    S3 recall - oil strainer

Howdy! I received a notice today from my dealer about a new recall on my 2016 S3 for the oil strainer. I did a quick search and didnt find anything about this. Has anyone else been contacted or have more info?

    From my dealer:

"Your Audi S3 has been identified as needing the oil strainer replaced. This will be replaced under factory warranty. The oil strainer is an integral engine component, delivering turbocharger lubrication optimizing engine performance.

The strainer replacement should be addressed as soon as possible to avoid lack of power or stalling.

Corrective Action: The oil strainer within the oil supply for the turbochargers must be replaced and an oil change will be performed. The replacement requires 1 to 2 days to be completed."

My uneducated guess is this is the same issue at 4.0t engines where for some unknown reason all of the oil flows through one wire mesh screen to catch large particles and (shocker!) it gets clogged and your turbos fail, possibly sending shrapnel into the engine. There was a TSB in November 2017 for that engine which supposedly uses a good wire mesh screen instead of the bad wire mesh screen...many people just removed it without issue when they replaced their failed turbos. Just recently Audi announced a recall for the 4.0t engine, though I don't know how it dealt with people who chose to do the work outside the dealer to avoid the $10k bill prior to the announcement.

The 8V S3 IS38 turbo has no "strainer" in its turbo lube lines.

The 4.0L Audi turbo motors do.

Not sure why the alert was mailed out to S3 drivers...

    Good bet its in error.

Unless Audi is giving us free 4.0L turbo motors to place in our S3's!
    2015 S3 with 210,000 miles with new 2019 Q5 motor. Still going!
