Buying Advice for B9 RS5 Coupe

    All,

I am hoping to be back behind the (audi) wheel in the next 6-7mos. Sold my B8 S5 before it hit 50k miles in Dec 2021. Right now I'm looking at MY18-19 RS5 coupes. I understand the biggest changes are trim applications such as black optic includes black mirror caps, black optic carbon pkg, nav and some driver assistance becomes standard in the later MY.

Ideally I look for CPO and if I was buying tomorrow, mileage would have to be under 25k (preferred) 30k at the absolute max.

Since this is down the road a bit, prices will drop slightly but within what price increase would a 2019 be worth it? For instance, I found a 2018 loaded with 23k miles for $61k and a similar 2019 loaded with 18k miles for $68k. Carbon mirror caps I plan to do on a 2018 anyway, and all that the carbon optic pkg contains on a 2019 isnt worth an extra 7-10k in price to me for a 1yr newer car...

Are there any mechanical issues that earlier model years have that were addressed later on? I ask because I know the 2013 to midyear 2014 B8.5 RS5 had some more common transmission issues that were addressed and applied for the 2nd half of its production life. I'd like to dodge any bullets I can.

PFA of the previous, plan to carry over similar approach.

I *think* it's July 2018, not 2019, but I am also not sure. I have asked for clarification in another thread on AW.

The MY2019 would have, depending on its in-service date, a remaining year of the 4-yr/50k, and if you went CPO, that would add another two years at the expiration of the B^B. Before I decided to order a '23, I was looking at used '21-'22 Coupes, and it is always good to have your local Audi service check to see if Audi Care remains on any used RS5, too.

so for peace of mind with warranty in the picture or not, down the road, I should start my search at MY19's?

I have a Stage 3 tuned 2018 MY RS5 that I purchased new in September of 2018 and the only thing I have had happen were the Gas gauge on the dash went out a month BEFORE warranty expired(thank God) and at 21,900 miles a coolant hose that runs underneath, side to side, across the intercooler that broke at the aluminum bracket bolt and had to be replaced. No other issues so far but I am at low mileage. I currently have 22K miles. I would do exactly what you are doing, look for a very low mileage RS5. These German cars are high maintenance and repairs get really expensive. Make sure you have a quality Audi mechanic that has a reasonable hourly rate. Everything is expensive on these cars, Brake rotors and pads, Tires etc... but they sure are fun. You can go with high quality OEM aftermarket on some things but for the most part stick with OE replacement.

The 2018 models are affected by the 3G turndown. For example, the SOS function (and others) is affected by this. Only a small number of 2019 models are affected by this, but it seems unlikely that you will run into one of them. My 2019 was and early build (10/18) and it is not affected. Audi has not provided a suitable fix for the 2018 models, so if connectivity is important to you, get the 2019.

I have a 2018 RS5 and Audi replaced my old 3G hardware under the CPO warranty a few months after I bought the car. I'm not aware of any lost functionality.
