    LS Swap

Nearing the end of my LS swap. Have most things sorted but there are a few things to figure out. With my swap I tried to maintain as much of the Audi control as possible. What I'm stumped on is how did the Audi computer know when the original engine was running. When I start the LS I still get the "push clutch to start" on the screen. I retained the Audi engine speed sensor and adapted it to the LS which makes the tach work. I thought this would tell the computer that it was running. Trying to get the ac compressor to run but I don't think it will unless the ecu thinks the engine is running. I think once I get that figured out, most if not all of the sub-systems will work. My goal with this swap is to have everything work properly.

It will help if you give out more info on the original Audi, year, model, etc. B7 comes with 2.0T, 3.2 V6, 4.2 V8. They are completely different engines with different sensors and ECM.

Got the engine running issue figured. I machined the same tooth pattern as the Audi engine speed reluctor into the harmonic balancer of the LS. The Audi sensor ended up being not strong enough to pick up the teeth. I installed a stronger hall effect sensor (T-56 Trans speed sensor). The Audi computer sees the signal now. Good to go. The car is an 06 A4 quattro. The LS is backed by a Nissan CD009 Trans. The biggest hiccup in the whole build was the rear diff. Audi in their infinite wisdom figured they would design it to work opposite from every other manufacturer. I had 6 speeds in reverse and one in foreward. I ripped out the diff and adapted a posi diff from a 350Z, not an easy task. I made an adapter that allows the use of the Audi half shafts, but the shafts are too long. I cut them down and welded them back together just so I can move the car around. I will have to find a drive shop to make me some custom sized shafts.

Nice. Which LS engine is this? I like to see how it compares on paper with the stock 4.2L V8 for B7 S4.

Just a run of the mill LM7. I just acquired an ls6 short block which will eventually be swapped in and supercharged. I believe the LM7 was rated at 295. I figure in a lighter platform it should perform OK. There was no rhyme or reason for the swap, more just because I can. I like a challenge.

Well, she is on the road, sort-of. Been shaking her down for the past three weeks. Ive been progressively turning up the pounding and today a bracket that i built for the rear diff broke. I got her back home and assessed the damage. Not too bad but it destroyed the inner driver cv. Does anyone have an inner CV floating around that i can buy? Let me know.
