Had this issue last year but it warmed up and went away. I found a thread someplace that said it could be a relay or something. Im trying to find it but am having no luck. So if anyone could help that would be awesome as search just isn't finding it.

Cold morning go out and start car, no power steering let car warm up. Restart car sometimes after that the power steering will be ready and sometimes it takes a few more starts before it decides its ready for the day. Once it starts it seems to be good all day.

Not sure what ya mean by "power steering ready", or the mentioning of relays. B7 don't have electronic steering(like some newer cars). Just the servotronic, which is just a little extra assist at slow speeds.

So it don't have any power steering? Do ya get any sort of noise/screech from the pump, when its not working?

There is a 640 relay under dash that adds more power assist to low speed turning, the servotronic Jay mentioned, relay could be shot/shorted/loose.

Poke your head under and inspect, remove it and test your steering if it feels the same as when it starts up and doesnt work, replace.

^ no noise or anything like that at all.

Will replace the relay and see what happens. Just seems odd it only does it when cold out.

So, is it not working, or just feels a little heavier? If its just a little heavier it could be the servo relay, or the actual servotronic solenoid on your steering rack.
