I have a 2018 Audi a3 that I bought CPO in 2019 with 30k miles on it, the transmission went out the following February 2020 and was replaced under warranty.
2.5 yrs later and the warranty just expired in June the transmission is out again with the same issue.. The dealership is asking for 10k to replace it..
Now I was going over my service documents from when it was originally replaced and the transmission they replaced it with was remanufactured and the job was only charged for $3,400.
The dealer it is at now is at another location from the original repair, but they are telling me that they do not replace transmissions with remanufactured and I would have to pay the 10k. (Also, it is not possible to bring the car back to the original repair dealer since I am living out of state at this time)
I am wondering if this is something I should bring up with Audi of America, and if any of you guys in this position would do so? I don't think it is right that they will replace it under warranty with remanufactured, but tell me that I have to pay for a brand new when it is out of my pocket and that will not do it with remanufactured in this case.
Thank you..
Yes. Try to find out why the original transmission died.
Then find out if the original transmission oil cooler was replaced with new transmission?
I have seen mechanics change transmissions and not the cooler.
This is often where debris goes from a failed transmission.
Then the debris enters the new transmission and it quickly dies too.
The original $3400 job sounds like a Mechatronic unit was replaced.
The $10,000 job sounds like the entire transmissions getting replaced.
If you have receipts showing the first gearbox was reman...call Audi of America.
Don't send them original's...only copies. They have been known to lose paperwork.
