    2021 B9.5 Audio Install

    Hey Guys,

Before I go ahead and work up the install of sub/amp combo I wanted to see if any one has done it before. I have a 21 sq5 with the B&O sound system. While it sounds nice, I am needing more bass, im used to having a bit more coming from always running subs in my cars.

If any one has a walk through I'd greatly appreciate it, if not I'll be making one soon.

I've been looking into this myself as I have always had subs and need more out of it. I've seen a couple of videos on YouTube from a few different channels (It's Pronounced Va Guh, Prosumer Garage, Tangentsdaily). Not sure if any of their videos would help, and also wasn't sure if I could just link their videos here or not. Prosumer Garage also makes a pigtail for B&O (also non B&O) systems for plug and play. Believe his username is the same here.

Also this thread here with a lot of information (and a few semi-guides, tho I haven't finished going through it entirely)

If you make a guide then I look forward to seeing it. I'm going to try the Cerwin Vega shallow mount spare tire subwoofer as I don't want to lose the space in the hatch. If it isn't enough then I will be adding my previous system. Hope this provides a little assistance, if not then ignore me lol.

i had a car audio shop install the CV shallow mount, plus they added a thing to flatten the signal. It is way way better than before. More low end that you would prefer and expect. But, make sure you add some towels under the deck cover around the spare, otherwise, you will have a ton of rattle. I have the sub setting at the sub a smidge past min, and at the mmi, i have it 1 past middle, and i have plenty of bass and low end. (21 sq5 w/B&O)

I bought the female version of the plug that plugs into the stock sub for a couple dollars on aliexpress and made my own connector. It was amazing, at first. However after a month I started having major issues with the bass coming out choppy and cutting out, but I know I didn't blow the stock amp because I went back to stock and its fine. I confirmed with known-good other subs and amps and the issue persists, even when running the connector directly to the aftermarket sub. So I'd be careful going this route. I'm going to be tapping a line level converter into some different speakers to test further.

Someone really needs to find a place to tap into that's line level, with the full frequency range. I haven't yet.

I have a sealed JL audio box with 2 W6 12 inch subs and an Image Dynamics class A/B amp. This combo is overkill for some, but it's just about right for me. The factory system blends in decently as long as you keep the subs to a modest level. Otherwise they can over power the B&O system.

I just replaced the whole system as it was one of the worst factory "upgraded" systems I had heard.

As far as the amplifier cutting out without the factory subwoofer connected, that is pretty normal for a Class D (or any of its variants) amplifier that doesn't see a load. Try wiring a 47ohm 5 watt resistor across each of the amplifier channels and it should stop the cutting out.
