Can we move up to a 275 to get a little more sidewall without any issues…?

Want to get a set of all seasons but not liking the idea of the 30 ratio on the 265…

What’s the biggest we can run without causing any mechanical issues…?

275/30/20 vs. 265/30/20 has the former gain 1/10 of an inch in sidewall height, not very much.

Are the wheels 8.5" or 9" width? Keep in mind also that a wider tire doesn't mean a wider contact patch if the wheel is too narrow. The sidewalls will get pulled in to fit the narrow wheel and will cause the tread to bow. Ultimately, the center of the tire will wear faster than the edges, on top of the fact that you will have a smaller actual contact patch. I have an RS5 with the OEM set up of 275 on 9" wheels and I still feel 9" is too narrow for a 275 to optimize the contact patch. My vote for you is to stay with a 255. On an 8.5" or 9" wheel, it will ultimately yield the better contact patch and sidewall geometry. 275 will be optimal on a 9.5 or 10" wheel, and 285 on a 10" wheel. This is a perfect example of "just because you can, doesn't mean you should".

The OEM wheels are 9”… The stock Conti sidewalls are too stretched and looks terrible plus seems it’s going to put the wheel at more risk…

From my understanding switching to the Michelin AS in a 265/30 will eliminate the stretch look but going to the 275/30 would also give me a little more sidewall…

yes 275/30 will be just fine, that's the stock RS5 size (on 20x9 wheels also) and wont have any fitment issues at all on the S5 (shouldve been stock S5 size too IMO). correct you'll get better sidewall protection, i see no reason not to get them. the stock 265 do look more stretched because they are summers and contis, but still i'd go for 275 anyway.

i'm actually running 275/35/20 on the stock BO wheels, not planning to lower the car so i have no rubbing issues, fitment is good, left rear just kind of grazes the back of the fender liner so you have to flex the liner out of the way a bit but it's not a big deal. otherwise i like these, i went a size up because of NYC roads here, feels much more comfortable and i'm alot more confident driving around now without worrying about bent wheels all the time.

What is the stock tire size? 255/30 or 255/35?

Years ago, I had posted on some other car forum how a 255 tire of one brand was physically wider than a 275 of another. Really weird of how and why this happens, but it does. I don't remember the specifics but I had even posted pics.

I agree, 275/30/20 would be a much better sized tire.

The OEM Continental 5P Sport Contact 265/30 runs narrow according to many that have used this tire, so I know exactly what you mean. It also is only good for 9 to 15k miles from those same users.

yeah certain tires do run narrower. continentals in general run a bit narrower, those stock 20 ones are summers and even narrower than the avg contis too.

to upgrade those 265/30 stocks, i'd recommend 275/30 for a good oem fit, or if you want to go slightly thicker for better comfort and protection, on up to 9" wide wheels, i would recommend 255/35/20, it's a great fit and adds a bit of cushion, and no fitment issues if you aren't lowered.

Yes this exactly. Here's a 265/30 Bridgestone for example - clearly a much more square sidewall than the 265 Conti on this rim. Any of you guys with 275s who can post a picture, it'd be helpful.
