    Unhappy 15' 8V S3 Oil Leak - Pan? (Pictures)

    Noticed some oil leaking when I jacked up the car to the do an oil change.
    Oil seeping out from where the top oil pan meets with the lower oil pan...is this a simple fix?
    Just replace the lower oil pan? Or could it be something else?

    Imo I would replace the pan. It's not worth the trouble of doing the gasket, just to have it leak again. Plus it may be a good time to upgrade to an aluminum pan.

    Thanks, kinda what I was thinking.

    With the aluminium and steel pans they seem to only use a gasket maker/silicon sealant, any chance you know how long those last?

    If done properly it will last just as long or longer than a gasket. Honda and Toyota have been using just sealant in place of gaskets for years. Just have to make sure everything is super clean and dry. Do not over apply sealant, and let it cure for a full 24 hours before adding oil. And a side note, some sealants I've used have to be assembled right away and others have a short cure time before assembly. So what ever sealant you use read the directions fully

    If your going to the trouble of replacing the oil pan seal...yah might as well replace it with an real metal pan instead of the factory plastic pan!

    Mine leaked in exactly the same place as yours. Replaced just the gasket with oem one and 1 1/2 years later everything is still good.

    Wortec also makes an aluminum oil pan that fits our cars. It holds one more quart of oil and uses the OEM gasket for sealing.

    I run this pan as well! Another benefit besides the using an OE seal and metal > plastic is that it allows for a REAL and magnetic drain plug!

    Thanks for the suggestion. I was going to go with that exact pan but decided to go with the metal pan and a gasket that appears to work from what I read on the MK7 forums after seeing some people having problems with leaking with the URO ones. Will report back on how well it works once I get it install this holiday weekend.

    Zero issues with Uro pan for 3 years now...
    2015 S3 with 210,000 miles with new 2019 Q5 motor. Still going!
