    Lowering/spacer question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have an rs5-2019. It is on the factory 20”. I just bought spacers, 15s all around. But if I just put on spacers, will that make the illusion of the wheel gap being bigger? Can this car be lowered with how the suspension is?

Your car looks great. How does it look In person with the spacers? Does it exaggerate the wheel gap? I really do t want to lower the car if it’s not needed. My m3 is lowered and I wanted this with a better ride. As for the amber, I did t realise it was changed. I just bought the car. I know they made a bunch of changes. Including the brake calipers

I have a 2019 RS5 sportback with 12.5mm front and 15mm rear spacers. To me, it looks like it reduced the wheel gap as the wheel in now closer to the lip of the fender. There are a few posts on this here and on AW.

This really depends on the angle from which you view the car. From certain angles, it will not increase the visual wheel gap. From others it will. Usually if you are standing straight side on, looking down slightly from a medium distance, it will. This refers specifically to the illusion of your vertical wheel gap. It also depends on how big the spacers are. Also remember that larger spacers will increase the stress on your wheel bearings. This may be a factor if you plan on keeping the car for more than about 60,000 miles. Best thing to do is to put them on and see if you like the look. No big deal. With regards to your second question, yes, the car can certainly be lowered, even with 15mm spacers. Again, you need to play around if you are going to be pushing the tolerances.

I made a decision a number of years back, not to mess with the overall suspension geometry of a car unless I was going to really re-do the whole thing with full coilovers, proper alignment adjustments, etc. So keep that in mind when lowering. Again, it all comes down to how long you want your car to last and do you care about the resale value. The more you modify, the lower the resale value. The one exception here is you have a fully high-end modded car and the right buyer comes along. This did happen to me many years ago with my then Stage 3+ B5 S4.

Pics comparing before and after have to be from the same angle and height, and under the same lighting conditions to be able to give a meaningful comparison.

Thank you all for the wonderful feedback. Are 15mm spacers considered aggressive for adding excessive wear?

Maybe a little, but not so much that I would never consider it. I had problems with the front wheel bearings at 65000 miles on my C7 S6 using performance wheels that were 16mm further out than stock as well as 12mm spacers on the stock wheels in the winter. My wife definitely had issues with the 18mm spacers I put on her S3, however they didn't manifest until about 80,000 miles. So again, it depends on how long you want to keep the car. The longer you want to keep it, the less you should modify.

Ive been running 12mmF 15mmR spacers for three years. Everyone asks if my car is lowered. IMO it will not look to have more wheel gap.
