    2.0 tfsi cold start rattle

Hello, recently noticed that on every cold start, i hear some rattle noise, so i decided replace chains, ordered oem parts, but don't replaced oil pump chain, and oil chain tensioner, because my mechanic said it's not nessasary, main chains with tensioner, sprockets, and slide rails replaced. But this strange few seconds rattle on cold start didn't disappear.

Adding video with cold start, in first seconds you can hear it.

Maybe this is normal, or this rattle can be rattling oil pump chain?

Thanks in advance for Your answers.

Mine does that too ever since I owned it. I did crank chains and balance shaft chains in the summer of 2021. I think it's just a 2.0 TFSI quirk.

I don't hear anything abnormal but if you are worried it's the timing chain just check your phase position in VCDS to measure the stretch or pop off the peep hole plug to inspect the tensioner. Some engines will make specific noises, my 911 Turbo rattles at idle on cold start and it's the timing chain but nothing to worry about on that particular engine. I saw in the records the original owner went to the dealer after owning the car just a few thousand miles but it is totally normal and not a problem. Yours sounds normal to me........

what you say in your video is correct, the oil pump chain does not need to be replaced : "Because main timing chain with tensioner is replaced, only oil chain was kept, because my mechanic said it's not nessacary to replace it."

You almost replaced everything but the oil pump chain. Just out of curiosity were items #27, 28 (but not #25) replaced because the teeth were worn? Usually those would not be replaced like item #25 which you did not replace, unless they were damaged.

-.12 is as good as it gets, your timing chain is fine and I don't hear any abnormal noises. I think you are in good shape from everything I see and hear....

25 sprocket can not be replaced, because it's comes only with new camshaft so it stayed old, but others chain sprockets like 27 and 28 was replaced just to be calmer, but my mechanic said that sprockets was been in good condition, and it was not necessary to buy new sprockets.

gotcha thanks, yes on earlier versions it is separate from the camshaft i believe but not on later versions like my 2014 where I would need a whole camshaft

Another car in family 15 plate q5 with also 2.0 tfsi engine (CPMB), but facelift, mine a4 is not facelift, and i recorded cold start of q5 and compared with mine, and i definitely can tell that on my a4 in first second of start (youtube video is from 0.03 to 0.04 second) is audible metal rattle.

Another video with recorder a4 and q5:
