Xmas in November: new RS 7

    Hello fellow enthusiasts!

Tomorrow I’ll bring home a new ‘22 RS 7. Winter tires are going in the morning. Tint, PPF and ceramic got done today.

I’m trading in my 2017 RS 7 (not the performance model). I put all 48,000 miles on it, and it has been a wonderful car. No mechanical issues with it over the last six years.

The only thing that concerns me about the new vehicle is the 22” wheels. It sounds like Michigan and Colorado (where we live) have the same roads. I’ve never purchased a tire/wheel protection plan, but am considering it for this one. The wheels look gorgeous BTW.

I’ll come back here with some picture and my early impressions.

    Cheers

congrats! I just took home a 23 RS6 Avant- and went with the wheel and tire after a lot of research. 22 inch rims, summer tires, and potholes do not mix. I learned this lesson on my many 7 series BMWs that had run flats on 20s and I burned through multiple rims / tires. In three cars, I averaged 4 tires and 2 rim replacements per car.. The tricky part is getting the specific coverage you need- there is a difference btw a rim refinish and a rim replacement. Some of the plans cap the number of replacements as well. I bought the plan with the most coverage, and worked hard to get it off of their list- but from experience I know that I will need it.

MacMia, congrats on your new ride as well! Did you go with air suspension or DRC?

Like you I also ended up paying for one of the wheel/tire protection packages. I've been extremely lucky over the last 20 years here in Denver. Other than normal wear, I've only had to replace one tire due to a pothole (RS4), and one tire (RS7) due to a puncture in the sidewall.

I've never had 22" wheels however, and they look pothole seekers.

Also got the wheel and tire protection package for my 2023 RS6. I am pretty good with not curbing wheels... but coming from an SRT Jeep... I have been a little spoiled with a big side wall. Better to be safe than sorry!
