245/35/19 Square vs Staggered Set Up

Please help me pick out my new set of tires! After doing some research on here, it sounds like the consensus for a square set up on the 8Y is 245/35/19. However, would it make more sense to go with the OEM sized tires but with more sidewall on the front, for example, 260/35/19 in the front of 245/35/19 in the back. I'm getting all-seasons to drive in the winter but I'm not planning to drive the car when there's snow on the ground (got a daily with winter tires for that!). My assumption is that the wider tires up front will offer better acceleration versus the squared set up?

Thinking about going with Yokohoma Advan Sport A/S+.

As I've discussed here in this Forum, I am running 245/40/18 tires on Neuspeed RSe10 18x8.5 wheels, now at 42,217 miles of which 30,396 miles have been fast country back road runs 10am-2pm as weather permits on Tues, Weds and Thurs only, when very few if any other vehicles are on these roads.

This configuration is currently on our 2019 Audi RS 3 and was also which I have been running on several other vehicles of ours (2015 Golf R DSG, E28 BMW) and has proven to be a very good configuration. I've been running these country back roads for the past 49 years, when we moved from Santa Monica (our fast Pacific Coast Highway days) to Northern Virginia in 1973, where I worked at the now defunct Xerox International Training Center, owned and operated by someone else now.

Some pictures are posted in MY PHOTO GALARY if you're interested.

Just be careful you dont change your overall tire diameter by more than ~3% from stock, 265/30 to 256/35 is an increase of ~4.1% so i wouldnt do that. 245/35 square will work pretty good.

The reason the car is reverse staggered from factory is to decrease understeer, not for acceleration, there maybe some very marginal gains from the wider front tire but doubt you would notice on street tires.

Might be an unpopular opinion but if you’re worried about acceleration performance, all seasons aren’t the answer, regardless of width.

I’m personally running a 26” diameter tire (255/40/18) and use a 225/40/19 on stock wheels for snow tires.

I thoroughly enjoy the taller side wall

Thank you, this confirms what I suspected!

Do you have an 8Y? Are you saying you got 255/40/18 for summer tires and 225/40/19 for snow tires?

If you are going to have a dedicated set of summer wheels and tires, do what I have done. I run 265/35/18 square Michelin Sport Cup2 for Spring, Summer, and Fall on my RS3. I also use them as a wet weather tire at the track. They have an immense amount of dry weather grip when warmed up. I have a 2008 A4 as a dedicated Winter driving school, foul cold weather, and dog's car, that I run on Nokian Winter studded tires.

Can you elaborate on why you never want to change your overall tire diameter by more then 3%? Is this a milage reading issue or will it cause issue with the AWD system/need to be reprogrammed for a different size tire?

It’s your Speedo accuracy, abs, and awd systems. Someone dug up a spec from Audi and that was the recommendation.
