Shows up if I search for recalls on MyAudi. Hope the fix won’t involve extensive disassembly of the dash.

My understanding from talking to my dealer is that it entails a software update and they're approximating about a six hour time frame. My dealer suggested that I wait until next month to schedule it.

That sounds like the software update for the rear camera view which is a different recall ID than the OP posted. I have two open recalls for my 21 RS6: The fuel sensor debacle with no fix available...never experienced the issue and the rear camera view software update (fix is available)...never experienced this issue, either. Neither one of these is a concern for me so I am in no hurry.

I find it ironic that I’m now getting notifications about this recall on the MMI when there is no fix for it.

Anyone know what is fixed with this recall? Does it solve the issue with Favorites and Quicklinks periodically being erased? Not the most critical issue there is, but certainly annoying. I've made the mistake of setting 10-15 favorites a few times now, only to have them disappear a few weeks later. I've stopped setting them now. Read somewhere that a fix is due this year...hoping this is it.

I did the software recall a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was going to be a quick in and out. Nope. They said it will take at least 6 hours, gave me a loaner, and said to come back the next day.

I did have the rear cam glitch a few times over the past 6 months, but nothing consistent.

I have not had any rear cam glitches since the update. However....

    Two things I wasn't expecting:

    A) When you turn the car off now, it plays a short drum beat. Freaked me out the first couple of times as I wasn't expecting it and didn't know where it was coming from. Now I don't even notice it anymore, kind of like the short tune it plays when you turn the car on.

    B) And this was a biggie, at least for me.... They enabled wireless Android Auto. Epic. Oddly enough it's way more reliable than with the cable. I had the car in for an oil change about a month or so earlier and my new loaner had wireless AA. I asked my service advisor if there was a way to enable that in my car and he said not without replacing the entire MMI at a cost of $15k or so. Hard pass on that, I'll keep using my cable. So I was thrilled to find out unexpectedly that my podcast started playing on it's own without my phone being plugged in after the update. I was in such disbelief at first that I assumed it was cached somehow so I kept playing random things that I had never listened to before, finally confirming that they did enable it.

    Yay, Audi!

Yes mine went in a couple of weeks ago, they had it about 5 hours.

Came back with the Audi heartbeat on shut down.

This recall, 91EI, IS NOT the software update that some 2021 owners are receiving. This recall affects about 6,000 Audis (almost exclusively 2022’s). It is due to a hardware failure that may cause the MMI to become permanently disabled. Because with no MMI there would be no backup camera the vehicle would no longer conform to Federal Vehicle Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

I do not know if the faulty part is located behind to dash or elsewhere in the vehicle, so I am not sure what needs to be removed/replaced for the repair. But it appears this is a hardware, not software issue. Audi has had over 700 warranty claims for this issue. If 6,000 vehicles are affected, that is over a 10% failure rate.

Here is how Audi describes the issue:
“Under certain conditions during shutdown of the infotainment main unit, an error in one of the voltage regulators may lead to damage to various components within the control unit causing a loss of all functions including the screen display. In this case, the infotainment main unit is damaged permanently and needs to be replaced."

Letters are expected to be sent to owners on 12/25/2022

Not looking forward to having the infotainment unit replaced.

Pretty sure it won't matter whether it was a US or Canadian car. I did check with my service rep with VIN and as of yesterday there has not been any recalls indicated for my 2022 RS6 (Build 06/22). Perhaps it hasn't made it into the system yet if letters are expected later in the month.
