    Squeaky Brakes on Wife’s Q7

    Hey guys,

My wife’s Q7 brakes squeak like an angry pig when backing out of garage and driveway in the morning. Front only (Stock rotor and pad combo per FCP) with maybe 10-12k miles.

I plan to (1) raise and support one side, (2) pull front pads off, clean backing and ears, (3) sand pad material (sheet of sandpaper on cement swipe pad a few times), (4) re grease ears, backing plate and caliper slide points )5) repeat other side. (6) reinstall and torque wheels to 100 lbs.

    am I missing something?

    Hey guys,

I'm replying to my own thread and will update later. First, there is a TSB on this issue. If you had the TSB, you'll have two larger springs holding pads relatively still in the calipers. Nonetheless, I lifted and supported passenger side of car, removed front wheel with 17MM socket with powered Milwaukee 1/2 drive. Then, i removed the two caliper carrier bolts (21mm) after turning wheel toward passenger side for better access. I pulled both pad, sprayed caliper with brake cleaner (non chlorinated, non flammable $6 at local auto parts store), sprayed back pads and wiped with paper towel, and I did the same with the pads' "ears" and sprung inserts on caliper. I also sprayed the rotors for good measure. Then, I Lightly greased with Plastilube (by ATE I believe). Reassembled. Torqued carrier bolts really tight (120lb to 140lb) and wheels to 100LB by hand with torque wrench.

I hope to hear squeal only from driver side in the morning. Then, rinse and repeat!!

Fairly common issue on the 4M and like you said, there's a TSB on it to install the second anti rattle spring. Also, IIRC the wheel torque calls for 120 ft-lb.

Thanks for the comments guys. Cleaned, greased, reinstalled and ram car through touch less wash. My wife has said it’s been silent since I did all that, and I’ve put about 15 miles on it: hear nothing!!
