Maybe a novice question but do I need to bleed my cooling system after taking off a coolant pipe for a few hours to finish an 02 sensor job?

For some reason my mechanic said Im fine since I didnt start the car with no coolant, is there an easy way to bleed the system? I saw on youtube a guy started the car with the coolant reservoir cap off to let the air out, would that work?

When you took the coolant pipe off, did coolant come out?
