If I'm on the factory DP going to an aftermarket DP will I be able to reuse the bolts and nuts or will I need new ones ? I thought the bolt was basically welded to the factory DP and cannot be used on an aftermarket DP

    Thx in advance

Not sure if it's the same for everyone else, but my oem cat had 2 non removable studs and the 3rd one was on the up pipes. Made for a nice guide pin putting the new one in.

You need to pick up four m8 x 30mm bolts. They have them in two packs at Home Depot for a couple dollars. The factory nuts are m8.

Thank god for this thread. I have the same issue as OP. I was just messaging CTS for a set of replacement bolts and gaskets and it came out to about $42.28 and I was about to pay for it till I saw this thread. Thank you

This man is correct. M8 is the size you need. I went with stainless from Lowe’s, but I’m sure the packs form HD would be fine too.

check ebay, there’s some people selling m8 nuts that take 10mm sockets. it makes installing 100x easier, since you can’t fit a 13mm socket in there.

Exhaust Manifold nuts are definitely clutch for this install - https://www.amazon.com/Exhaust-Manif...16829174&psc=1

For some it might seem like overkill, but I always drop the whole exhaust for this job. it takes another 15-20 minutes but makes it a breeze. if you unbolt the exhaust’s downpipes from their hangers you can pull the cat pipe out the top with the downpipes attached to get all those 6 bolts effortlessly, then slide the whole thing back down. You’ll need to remove the chassis support brace of course.

Also so you dont spend forever fishing for torque specs, I compiled them all here with diagrams for clarification:

Do you, by chance, have any pictures of that method?

    Seems pretty nice...

Do you unbolt the hangers and take off the exhaust clamps of the 2 pipes going down to the mid muffler as well? How much of those pipes can come through the top?

Yep, those clamps come off then I unbolt and remove the lower downpipe hangers. But its only a few bolts to drop all the exhaust hangers. I just remove the rear hangers, downpipe hangers, and cross brace & hanger, and slide it back and off the downpipes. Then I unbolt the downpipes from the transmission and they’re free. I can get the cat pipe out a few more inches this way and easily access all 6 bolts. Also using an engine hoist to wrap a chain around the cat pipe helps a lot for supporting it and pulling it out. I then wrap a chain around the back of the cat pipe to pull it into the turbo so I dont need a second pair of hands to line it up while I secure the clamp. just make sure you have something soft in between the hoist and the front bumper.

Someones gonna make fun of me for what seems like a lot of effort, but jokes on you I dont have scratches allover my forearms
