Are EPL Servers Still Active (November 2022 Edition!)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have to take my '21 B9.5 in for its first annual service Friday; as part of that they're also going to swap in winter tires and do the backup camera recall. I'm running the EPL stage 2 ECU tune right now (no TCU, never got access to the beta). The dealer warned me that they think the backup camera work will involve flashing the ECU back to stock. Can anyone confirm / deny, as of November 2022, whether EPL servers are still up and running? Sweating bullets over here ....

As of tonight, November 8th, 2022, the servers appear to be up. But, I'm not able to flash... so maybe a false flag.

Change to 034, its worth it, better support and you can flash to stock when needed.

It seemed like the servers were still up when I accessed the app - I could see all the previous tunes I had available to me - However when actually trying to flash all my credits were cleared out and I was unable to flash anything.

LOL right? His data point not really relevant given the history between him and Tony.

Op you should have left months ago, staying on the EPL much less a tune that has been proven to have safety items tuned around in the tune is pretty bold. I bounced the moment I heard they were shutting down, filed a dispute with my CC and got my money back and moved over to IE and couldnt be more happy.

Most tuning companies (ourselves included) are offering pretty large discounts for switching over. Pick your favourite and make the jump, you'll be glad to have ongoing support rather than worrying about an upcoming service wiping your software forever..

But you won’t lose your tune once down correct? Just the ability to switch back to stock right?

Is it possible to download and save a tune somehow? I bought my EPL tune along with an intercooler, but have yet to install the intercooler to upgrade to the stage 2 file. I’d like to do it this spring. The idea of buying a whole separate tune really chaps my ass.

Not in any currently available way. There was some discussion in the past, but it was deemed unacceptable conversation for the forum for legal reasons.

EPL never really had great numbers to begin with, nothing worth jumping through hoops to save anyway. Upgrade and enjoy more power and support. It's a shitty situation to spend the money twice, but the large switching discounts take a bit of the sting out of it.

    @S4tranquility - check your PMs

How would a competitor's tune improve reliability over EPL's tune again? I must have missed that part.

Probably meant better performing since I don’t think anyone can prove reliability.

People have been making claims that EPLs tune was an unsafe tune. That could theoretically be true, you can certainly make an unsafe tune on all ECUs I've played with, I imagine our MG1 is not an exception.

I have no idea how true it is, could just be FUD. People have claimed things like knock sensors being potted down, stuff like that. I have my doubts since they had plenty of customers and we didn't really ever see any issues.

You’re absolutely right, I misspoke on the reliability part, it’s normally one of those aspects that goes hand in hand with the 3.0T supercharged, not the turbo. Edited!

I went from EPL to iE and it has been great. I’ve never had an issue with my EPL tune but I also feel good with iE.

I don’t know the specifics.. I never had a problem with them and they had always been super responsive to me. I bet you that someone wanted to try something not so normal and had them do custom tuning and when things blow the customer will blame EPL. I’m only guessing this cuz I can’t imagine anything else given my experience.

I can't seem to return mine to stock. I've tried at least 3 times. Had to bring the car in to get a recall completed and they said they couldn't download the file as there was something blocking them. I wouldn't care normally but the recall has to be done in order to purchase the car off lease.

I brought my laptop to the dealer and it just keeps checking ECU.... With no progress.

Anyone have any ideas? Wifi connection is strong so that's not it.

    Thanks

Not at all - I am the car that EPL Files blew up. Mismanaged fueling and constant issues....I used the same files that all the hybrid guys used nothing custom other than sometimes having early access to files before release. My rebuilt block is now running IE same hardware and 100HP more on 93 with absolutely zero fueling issues and significantly better refinement of not only the tune but the TCU is a HUGE step up with IE. I am actually about to post an update on my thread.

Did you email Tony? He supposedly would be monitoring/supporting questions or logs "up to a certain point" - I think he said [email protected] was the only address that would be monitored. Wonder if he responds.....

Oh crap - doesn’t sound good. Hopefully you get a response from Tony. Otherwise, your next best step may be switching to 034 and hoping they can unbrick (may require to send it to them?).

I was trying to switch over to 034 but wanted to return it to stock first before switching. Wasn't able to do it so I've just been driving as is till I figured something out.

Once the lease was ending I started the buying process and was told in order to purchase they needed to perform some airbag recall that had to be done in order to purchase.

They couldn't perform it as something was off with the ECU and they could connect properly.

I just somehow and still don't know why it worked this time but was able to return to stock. Shit I hope that worked as I was not looking forward to jumping through hoops to figure this out. A new ECU would have to be special ordered from Germany and there's no ETA if it was ordered.

If Tony is still managing his emails etc he is able to unbrick your ECU remotely - At one point he was the only one that could as 034 had to either send out a special dongle or have you send your ECU in or something of that nature but they might have it worked out remotely by now as well. Either 034/IE should be able to help you return the ECU to stock by this point imo if Tony has finally disappeared into the woods.

My cable connected fine to the ECU/Tuner but they intentionally cleared my "Account Credits" out so I couldn't even remap to stock let alone any tunes. I remapped with IE

Honestly it sounds like your dealership is just being thick. Take it somewhere else to have the recall performed.

Im selling my car, so I need to flash back to stock also but I’m scared something might go wrong. I don’t have a warranty, can I just ask audi to re-flash my engine ecu back to stock? Can audi do it or it needs to be done with Epl hardware?
