Welcome to the group. You are at the right place.

Screen: No it's not Android, but you can install in a stand alone module, that adds CarPlay and Android Auto to the screen. From there you can connect your phone wired or wirelessly.

Folding mirrors? I don' know, I hope that I don't need it. After all it is not too big in size for you to worry about, not A6 or A8.

The thing to do with the screen is replace it with RSNAV (rsnav.com), which is essentially an Android touchscreen tablet that replaces the screen.

The Carlinkit (carlinkit.store) standalone interface which just displays to the factory screen isn't bad, it creates a CarPlay/AndroidAuto client for the phone to interact with, but you'll have no touch interface on the car side. As you can see from the RSNAV site, which resold the Carlinkit standalone interface solution, it appears Carlinkit is shifting focus to their AIBox, whatever that is.

There's a whole thread on retrofitting the folding mirrors. They seems they were using a third-party source and now after a few years some of them have started having issues. Anyway, search function.

If you go into the menu system to software and bring up the software revision screen, what is the software identifier? There are many videos on Youtube about confirming your infotainment system type. Google search. RSNAV even has a page on the subject.

i think you can play DVDs and it can be overridden to in motion playing with VCDS, Im sure Smac will verify.

If you have MMI 3G, the J794 does have a DVD drive. You have to do the "video in motion" modification (OBDeleven has a one button for it; not sure the complete set of actions to do it manually in VCDS) to enable it to function while the car is in motion.

The MMI 3G+ of B8.5 also supports the newer iPhone cables that can pass video. But I've never played with any of that stuff. If I'm in my car, I'm driving. If I'm driving, I'm not watching video. The OP is in UK, where there's also the R78 TV tuner module which he may or may not have.
