Bought a 2014 A4 with compression loss on #4

Not my first B8.5, my other 2014 is an Allroad with a dual pulley 3.0T paired with a 6MT and a Sport Diff. If curious check my other build thread in the Avant section.

Bought this one from a customer that didnt want us to fix it.

So I’ll “budget” fix it as a work commuter to replace my 300k+ B7 thats served me well over the years.

What it looked like:

Piston piece that broke fell and dinged the reluctor ring of the crankshaft… Did’nt expect that. Fortunately it did’nt damage the cylinder



Always nice to have blown engine to pick parts from, another reluctor ring, this one is ding less

Almost all buttoned up with revised dual link chain, guides (left and upper revised), tensioners and balancer shaft. As you can see I used the occasion to put an hfc, also have a non resonated downpipe going on along an IE Stage II mapping. (We flash 034, IE, Unitronic and OEM+ but I choose IE because more powa)


Had these laying around so I’m fitting them:




Also installed the black rearview mirror and headliner from the donor S4 I bought for the drivetrain for my Allroad. Had to retrofit the autodim portion so I used the occasion to pass wiring to both door connectors to later install autodim and memory side mirrors.

Also removed the tinted band in the windshield.



Hate honeycomb grilles with a passion so
grabbed this off FB Market place on the cheap:



Removed the tinted film on the tailight. Will probably throw the S4 trunk I have but its not the same black, arghhh


And I knew it was’nt the rms leaking because it was dry so axle seals, fml



Will be running the stock 17” wheel in winter with a set of used (9/32) studded Nokian Hakka 9 I had laying at the shop. Found these B9 AR wheel really cheap on FB Marketplace, will be the summer wheels:


I’ll take the suspension from the donor S4 I have which has H&R Sport spring on stock sport shocks along with the rear sway bar. Will help looks and handling a bit.

Agreed, letting go my B7 will be the hard part. Bpg pistons and we converted it 06A oil pump/oil filter housing 100k ago, as reliable as a 1.8T with more power. Oh well

Stock Ecu but even if its a 2014 its a cae engine, not a cpm.

In other words not flex fuel, 5 injector metal intake most probably with the old pistons.

Upgraded the non flat bottom steering wheel to one I had laying around

Ignore the airbag light, I’m retrofitting Magma S5 seats and I didnt finish yet.


And the BFI shift knob I had in my old B7

Haha yeah I do, we have two containers filled with parts at the shop, buy cars for the drivetrain at the auction you end up with lots of spares.

Still have to push the S4 that was a drivetrain donor for my Allroad in the shop, remove the suspension and replace with 2X4’s so I don’t drive a super high car.

Finally got the S5 seats installed for good. Had my buddy re-upholster the driver upper and lower bolster and extend the rear lower portion by making an hybrid of the A4/S5 foam to fill the void.

Took the driver seat rails from my car (A4) and installed them on the driver S5 seat. For the passenger I had to source a used electric seat to take the rails on it because my car had a manual seat and rails differ.

Had to disconnect the passenger occupancy sensor since it seem my car doesnt have one?!? Was going fubar and would’nt let me erase or adapt the fault.

Installed S4 mirrors because I want to retrofit the auto-dimming feature and memory feature.



So far I only finished wiring the passenger side


Also had a spare brushed aluminium trim kit I had laying around wrapped in gloss black to match my cluster bezel

Finished the auto-dimming mirrors retrofit, all 3 work perfectly now. Used the occasion to pass memory signal from T10 in the door module to T27 in the door jam and from T27 driver kick panel to under the driver seat. Just need to pin it along two can-bus and I should have memory on seat and mirrors. Soon

It had marks but not deep enought for us to worry about. I’ve been driving it for 5K and oil didnt move.

Installed an S4 rear sway bar yesterday. Unfortunatly bushings were burnt (wild guess : donor was probably in a fire) so I installed Powerflex bushings since oe are not available.
