Bad gas, how to drain tank?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I got full tank of premium next to where I live from Speedway gas station. Few minutes later started getting misfires on all cylinders. I think they sold me lower octane gas, not 93.
I put two small red bottles of STP gas treatment, and it help for about 7 miles of driving, now shaking and misfires are back.
Any ideas how to deal with it? There is nothing wrong with the car otherwise, relatively new plugs and coils.

    Quick web search:

Marathon Oil Corporation owns Speedway and supplies its fuel, and Marathon is a TOP TIER licensee. Marathon also owns ARCO, which is another TOP TIER retailer (as previously reported). However, despite some conflicting reports, Speedway is not a licensed TOP TIER gasoline retailer, and its fuel is not labeled as TOP TIER on the Speedway company website or on Marathon’s website (which does mention that Marathon and ARCO have TOP TIER gas).

Marathon provides Speedway’s gasoline, but it is a different formulation than what is supplied to Marathon and ARCO gas stations. We spoke with Speedway customer service representatives who also told us that if Marathon is unable to supply Speedway with fuel, the company is able to use third-party suppliers. On the Speedway website, the company simply states that all grades of its fuel are compliant with all local, state, and federal regulations.

    Moisture??

There's a chance it could be moisture. Might be worth trying a bottle of HEET, before you drain your tank.
Once you put it in, it will take some time to work. Good luck.

Bad gas, how to drain tank?

I can’t speak to their fuel quality, but if you disconnect the fuel feed near the factory air box location, you can have the fuel pump drain it for you into a gas can or whatever you want. It’ll take a while, but it’s relatively painless. Don’t use a manual siphon please, haha. A battery tender may not be a bad idea if you’re truly full. Obviously be careful with spark and fuel vapors.

I have heard of poor quality higher octane fuels in areas that may be more rural or less frequented as there’s opportunity for water to accumulate and separate in the tanks. It’s possible you got a big gulp of water and or debris.

Also, according to the article below, these issues can be nationwide and as prevalent as 20% of stations, with regards to the data that was collected.

    Found bunch of stories:

DAYTON — There’s no way to know how many vehicles were damaged after a Speedway supplier delivered unleaded gasoline tainted with diesel fuel to four area gas stations.
But Montgomery County Auditor Karl Keith said it highlights the need for Ohio to implement a fuel quality testing program.

Definitely need to drain it, do not want to risk engine damage

tank is nearly full, how about pulling fuel pump out, and out a hose in the tank there?

Definitely a way you could do it! Personally, I’d avoid it if I could.

I'd rather go for Shelby's 1st suggestion than opening up the tank. You'd have to siphon out both sides of the saddle tank which is just as easy for the fuel system to do. Probably not a bad idea to put a fresh fuel filter in it when you're done.
I've fuel pump'd quite a few vehicles empty over the years, but usually just running my own return line into a gas jug while the engine idles.

went to parts store and got two larger, more expensive bottles, one octane booster, one octane booster with fuel stabilizer, for around $25 both. Added both to nearly full tank, reset CEL, took it on the highway, and within 3 minutes of driving everything back to normal, if not better than normal, my stage 3 feels more agile and smooth with whatever crazy mix I have in my tank now.

I drained my tank this way before doing my fuel pump:

Hot wired the pump by using 5ft of 10awg wire and attached a spade connector to one end. I removed fuel pump fuse and inserted wire into right side if fuel pump fuse slot.

Once I had the Gerry can with the pressure feed line inserted into the can, I touched the unconnected wire end to the Pos batt. Terminal (turning on fuel pump).
