    Brake pads premature wear

While driving to work this morning I received an error for brake wear. My S4 has just over 17k miles on it so I was a bit surprised. I heard about quick wear but this seems excessive. From what I can see, with the wheels still on, the rear pads look fairly low but the front pads don’t look too bad. When I drove home however the warning was gone and did not come back. I was curious on what other people were seeing for mileage and also what pads are suggested. I was looking at EBC redstuff but can not find front and rear in stock. I’ll probably just pad slap them since the rotors look perfect, I know it’s not the best move but I’m getting married next week and can’t spend my money on shiny new car parts… from what I’m being told 😅

That's about right for the rear pads sorry to be the one to break it to you :)

It just seems odd to me, like the brake bias isn’t correct or the rear pads are a different compound. The dust has been horrible so I guess that’s something to look forward to mitigating

All b9 friends of mine (and myself) have seen about 15k out of the rear pads and roughly double that out of the fronts. Guess I can't really speak to why but it's different loads, different sizes, so I don't expect them to be the same wear. I got hawk 5.0's and the feel is different, some good some bad, but the dust is wayyyy less

    Brake pads premature wear

I purchased my S4 with 20k on it a few years ago. When looking at the Carfax I noticed rear pads had been done at 16K and I was surprised to see that. I would recommend turning off pre-sense which I noticed was applying rear brakes in various driving situations. These cars have way too many electronic Nanny’s for people that I guess can’t drive without assistance.

How is the bite and squeal on those 5.0’s? Thanks

The initial bite is much less as the operating temp is higher than stock pads. There's a bit of squeal sometimes but not too bad. I can definitely lay into the brakes harder when driving aggressively and they're much more linear in pressure. Big fan. Also much less dust

Just curious if anyone has tried this method to retract the rear calipers? Seems easy. see 2:50

    Brake pads premature wear

I had a friend that used this method on his rear brakes on a b8 s4. Said it was easy…
Not cleaning/greasing the pins? Not sure I agree with that…

Changed them today with that method, worked great! I also didn’t realize you only need 2 wear sensors and not 4. Trying the centric posi-quiet pads out, so far they feel great. A couple of squeaks while bedding them in but those should go away

Yeah I bought 4 sensors as well, but for like $2 each who cares
