Any good sound clips for Milltek Resonated?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Having a hard time finding any decent sound clips for the Milltek resonated exhaust. Plenty of the non-res out there.

Loving my new-to-me '07, but a little shocked at how quiet it is. Have already done the vacuum disconnect, but would still like a little more volume. Not sure I want to go full hooligan. Have the '13 TTRS for that....

If it's anything like their B8 exhausts, the non-res is the same tone just louder. The "res" just had additional mufflers on B8, which didn't really effect the sound quality, just the volume.

Just go non res milltek. Have had that system on two RS4's now and have been very happy. Perfect amount of sound/noise in my opinion!

Non-res is going to be raspier which is not for everyone. I’m back to just aftermarket mufflers after experimenting with a louder setup.

This is what I am worried about.

I love the sound as is, just need a little more volume. I don't need the rasp or the burbling on decel.

Have you reached out to milltek? They might have a clip for you. They've recorded several ad videos but since your car is older maybe it never made it to youtube.

The resonated system is going to sound very similar to OEM with the valves opened. I had non-res on mine and didn't experience any rasp, thought it was perfect for those looking for a bit more noise over OEM. Sounds like the non-resonated with valves is exactly what you're looking for!

In any case, if you decide you don't like the non-res version, all that changes is the mid pipe and you can make an easy swap.

My non res is not raspy at all. That is specifically why I chose it as I don't like raspy exhausts!

    Thanks for the input all!

Sounds like I might give the non-res some consideration.

There is no way. The OEM system with valves open is still pretty quiet.

Milltek designs exhausts that can still meet noise laws. Non-res wouldn't be legal ("off road use only"). On their site one of the res versions is listed as compliant. So they couldn't be very loud.

If you're buying brand new I would probably consider getting a JHM resonated instead. I feel like you're getting more for your money because the larger diameter gets you more volume. And I say that as a milltek non-res owner.

I think the JHM resonated may be too aggressive for what the OP wants. I say that when the JHM res is one of my favorite systems. It’s just loud when you get on it. But I’ve never heard the JHM res with stock downpipes

Don't get me wrong, I love how this car sounds with a full exhaust/down pipes. The JHM is a really nice looking system, and sounds great. But like the Milltek, I can't find any clips of the resonated system.

My Mk II TTRS had a full turbo-back APR system on it when I purchased, and it was a little over the top. Cold start would set off alarms of adjacent cars in the parking structure at work, lol. I picked up an oem sport exhaust and now, combined with the APR down pipe, it is perfect.

I love to hustle my cars, but I don't want to alert 'ol JL when I am doing so.

    Awesome, thanks!

Reply from Milltek inquiry about resonated: "It carries European EC approval, which means the volume level cant be more than the standard exhaust, but it will have a deeper and sportier sound to it than the standard system."

It sounds better inside the cabin than outside for sure.

Can't say I'm surprised there, the milltek is the same diameter as the OEM system

    Rilla,

You say that you have aftermarket mufflers, I presume with an otherwise stock set up. What mufflers did you use? Any clips of your whip?

This was a crappy one I had to make last minute on the way to have down pipes changed back to stock. I changed back to stock for the smell more than anything. Anyhow the back boxes are Scorpion. They don’t fit the best, I’d give them 8/10, but good enough really for the price. There is no drone and with the valves closed it is very acceptable for the neighborhood.
It sounds pretty close to this even with stock mid pipe: https://youtu.be/hH_j9VK0kh8
The other back box option with valves out there is supersprint but the price is pretty high. Supersprint has a pretty nicely priced non valved option. Last one I can think of for axleback is eisenmann which is always excellent quality but they don’t have a valved option or oval tips.

    Nice, thanks.

Looks like there is a Scorpion cat-back option with valves. ECS appears to carry quite a few options. Hmmmmm.......

Exhaust sound is very subjective. In my world this is a raspy exhaust:

    https://youtube.com/shorts/9I7e6M2cXEw?feature=share

Good on you for reaching out to Milltek. Makes sense what they said. That's why most B8 S4 owners say the resonated exhaust is basically stock volume.

The scorpion x-pipe is a bit ugly, I would just recommend the axle back. The stock mid pipe also has no crossover so that contributes to a slightly different sound as well.

I think it's raspy in the same way that an AMG v8 is raspy - or maybe farty is a more applicable word.
