    Increase Boost and/or Add Intercooler?

    I currently have a cheap maxspeedingrods turbo installed (specs below), cat back exhaust, pod filter.

    My question is how much would performance improve (if any) by adding a FMIC?

    It's currently at stock boost, how much is a safe level to increase it to? And what's the best method to increase it?

    Boost pressure should really only be increased with a tune. That’s the safest and most consistent. Most stage 1’s run around 18psi.

    You will not see any performance increase with a FMIC, and may even notice extra lag, depending on the size. What you gain, however, is consistency when repeatedly beating on the car from lower IAT’s.

    With a cheap turbo like that, would the turbo handle 18psi? I'm assuming the AEB should be able to handle it.

    Boost level is not set to be constant across RPM range by ECU mapping. While the stock injectors can supply enough fuel to support increased boost at low&midrange RPM, the stock injectors will quickly run out of fuel flow and produce lean mixture at high RPM (around >4500 RPM) when combine with increased boost level. If you "lobotomize" the ECUs control of boost level with a manual boost controller and you do not use larger injectors then you will quickly run lean when boosting at higher RPM. Tuning the ECU to request more boost at midrange RPM with stock injectors (or also for increased boost at higher RPM if you add larger injectors) is the only safe way. Actual boost levels you can run are all variable on the fuel octane, ambient temperature, intercooler design, turbo efficiency and airflow capacity, etc.

    So I take it adding a FMIC may not increase performance? Is the stock side mount suitable for a turbo as mentioned above? Also I'm assuming the AEB has a stock side mount intercooler, I don't recall sighting it.

    The next stage for upgrade by the looks of it might be a tune, bigger injectors, Engine Management?

    Yes, AEB has a side mount. It’s “fine” for stock/stock-like turbo. Not great, but fine.

    Also tune == “engine management.”

    You are “tuning” the engine management to perform optimally with the available hardware and fueling. Which also means don’t just drop bigger injectors in. The tune has to account for that.

    From what I’ve seen so far, I’d honestly just recommend you get an off the shelf stage 1 tune from someone like Reflect, GIAC, etc. That will work well with the K03S and is meant for stock injectors. Will give your car a lot more pep. Run that while you take some time to decide on a path to take the build.

    I ran a Reflect Stage 1 on my old Avant for a couple years and loved it. And I’ll be running another on the sedan I have now for a while (mostly due to RallyX class rules until I decide to go up a class).

    Thanks. From what I understand, off the shelf ECU's are not plug and play if the car is non-US because non-US cars have an immobiliser and therefore requires reprogramming?
