CarPlay Head Unit in a D2?

Hi Everyone, posted this same question in AudiWorld

I searched the forums first but couldn't find any CarPlay topics pertaining to the D2. If I missed it I apologize.

I bought a 2001 Audi S8 a few weeks ago; there are a few mods I'd like to do but the main one (probably gonna reveal myself as a real Millennial now...) is an Apple CarPlay head unit. I currently have the OEM Navigation Plus unit. The only CarPlay one I could find is this one:

(a few other sources had it including AliExpress but it's all the same unit)



It looks very "OEM-plus" with the orange glow and the relatively small screen, however I have of course heard/read the horror stories of cheap Chinese head units breaking shortly after being installed.

If anyone else has a superior alternative I am all ears.

Any suggestions for an Apple CarPlay headunit in a D2 S8?

Did you end up going with this or another unit? I'm considering changing mine as well and would appreciate if you're willing to share your experiences on it. Thanks!

I haven't as I am currently away from the car. I don't blame anyone for being hesitant as our cars have a very limited head unit selection!
