Should I sell my A4 and buy an S4?

Been a while since I’ve posted here. Leveled up my car fixing game a lot and started working in a shop as a B tech. Not terribly scared of timing chains if I have to do it. Anything else I should know about S4s?

Thinking I can sell my A4 for about enough to cover a B6 S4, there doesn’t seem to be that much price difference on the market rn, but I’d appreciate insight into the pricing as well.

Think I could get $10k for my car if I’m willing to wait for the right buyer? Super well maintained, extensively modified stage 2 car. 2nd owner, maint records from new. 96,000 miles, roughly

Anyone else thinking of changing it up?

Having done the B6 chains, for someone who
Wants to do it, it’s not terrible, just a big job, but……. Keep in mind all the things you un-bury during it. It turns into a “well it’s out, I may as well replace it now” type of situation and can add up quickly. Of course, you can
Put the old part back in, but it will probably fail a week after you get it back on the road

I live in AZ, when a 4.2 reaches the point of doing chains pretty much all the plastic parts under the hood break when you try to remove hoses, move stuff etc, replacing those adds up too. Just make sure you have extra budget for this type of stuff.

Your B7 looks good, personally I think way better than a B6 S.

the B6 platform is VERY old now. Here in Canada that means a lot given how many winters and how much salt it has been exposed to . warmer more southern Climates may not be as much of an issue. I actually always wanted a B5 , never liked the looks of the B6 , but had to let the dream go as they have mostly disintegrated.

Trade it in on a B8 S4 if it's going to be your only/daily ride.

The 4.2 can be fun but is very aged.

Mint manual B6 S4 Avant with new chains rebuild i'd trade off several of my cars for pretty quickly if one ever came up.
