    Blocking and deadening road noise-C7

    Hey guys,

I’ve got my 2018 A6 down to metal from the front edge of rear seat to tail lights due to an oil spill in the trunk. Insurance is covering the repair and I’ve cleaned it several times by shop vac, steam, simple green, citrol, baking soda, dawn (repeat each) and rubbing alcohol.

I have since added dynamat extreme to large flat areas to act as a CDL and have begun covering the entire rear of car with SoundSkins Pro.

I’ve got two layers under the rear seat bottom and plan to add Luxury Liner pro (MLV plus decoupling foam) before the new seats arrive.

Does anyone know if these three layers will fit under stock seat bottom?

View from rear after second layer. I’ve also added LLP in the passenger side bolster and plan to cut a template for driver’s side too!!

While you’re in there is famous words. Check OlyS6 or other audio builds to see how much deadening things can take?

Yes. It can be a little tight getting everything to fit back in place, but you can compress everything pretty well and then ratchet the seats down. Just be careful of the plastic sill trim on the sides of the car, and ensuring your front seat cables get securely reconnected.

Thanks Oly!! I may trim the LLP a bit loose see how it goes and tack the edges with SoundSkins to be sure i get 90% plus. I can tell there’s plenty of tire and diff noise coming from beneath the seat and side bolsters adjacent to wheel wells!! Since I'm there……

By the way, I made templates out of paper for the side bolsters and installed the passenger side as a test. The LLP worked great and fit without any issues whatsoever. I Have a template for drivers side ready to go as well.

I’ll probably do the rear seat in three pieces (1) the center hump, (2) passenger side and (3) drivers side. I’ll foil tape, test fist and may comeback with Butyl tape. Pella (the window people make a great, low profile product) that will work. That plus Dynamat, sound skins and LLP in trunk should limit interior noise to mostly tires.

Doors are already done with Dynamat and SoundSkins!

I’m not anxious to remove carpet to do CDL and LLP!!!

    Will avoid if possible

I did sound proofing with butyl foil in the RS6.Full rear section inc quarter panels and under seat. Back doors with foil and the foam type thingy on top of that. Never got round to doing the fronts yet. made a huge difference to noise. maybe too much now as i think its too quiet in the cabin and would like to hear the exhaust more.

Wow. I haven’t finished but noticed a big difference by finishing rear seat side bolsters, the area under back seat and about 30%-40% of trunk and wheel well covered with SoundSkins Pro.
