My front hood lift arm gave up the ghost over the weekend. Any comments on how easy this is to replace and whether its worth sourcing an OEM version or just use a third party equivalent?

Easy to replace, trade for my good one as I was going to go to a salvage yard for a blown one instead of damaging the one I have due to having a cf hood? Mine has been off the car a while.

It is very easy to replace. Most aftermarket ones will be the A4 steel hood version and have way more pressure. I would recommend the OEM Rs4 version ending in "C" I think they went NLA but may have come back.

OK, I did some research and also managed to remove the original from the engine bay (easy to do, just use a flat head screwdriver in the slots at each end to expand the rings and the lift arm will come out easily). The part number on mine is 8E0-823-359-C. A few searches based on this indicates this part is no longer available to purchase (as indicated in the above post). 8E0-823-359-A appears to be similar and reasonably priced (around $76) so it looks like this is my only choice at this time.
