I know I can drive most aftermarket turbos with stock tunes for a day to get my smog check, so not too worried about the tune aspect of it.
If there aren’t turbos that are upgrades that are CARB approved, how close do they look at the turbo when they do the visual?
I’m not looking to do a big monster or anything, just adding a little more to it.
A couple options, I’m guessing you are running a stg2 tune currently and will need to revert back to the stock catalyst, either permanently or temporarily.
Easiest, cheapest-tweak the wastegate actuator bracket 3-5mm towards the front of the car, this adds enough preload (in most cases) to eliminate the intermittent underboost codes P0299. Install stock catalyst, flash to stock for testing, or flash to APR stg1 as its emissions compliant.
Get a CTS KO4 (1070R)visually these and other hybrids mount and look stock, install stock catalyst at the same time, flash APR KO4 file, if you’re already an APR customer this is just an upgrade fee. This is an emissions legal set up, sell the HFC to offset costs.
