Advice on winter tires and wheel set up

Hello everyone,

I realize this has probably been discussed a number of times now but it seems like a lot of past discussion has been on the last gen RS3. So having said that, on the 2023 8Y RS3, is it cool if I use a square set up running winter tires? I have existing winter tires that are P235/40R19 and would just need a buy a new set of wheels.

You can square up the tires no problem but it is likely you will need to buy two pairs of wheels, with different offsets, and then not rotate them.

235/40/19 wont work, the overall diameter is to large of change from stock, you want to stay within 3% to keep all the electronics systems happy. With a 19x9 and 19x8 the recommended "square" tire size that will fit both wheels is a 245/35. The 245/35 will work but probably will be really stretched on the front 9" wide wheel, and for winter you obviously want the biggest sidewall you can get. That being said the Michelin Pilot Aplin Sport in 245/35/19 is very wide for its size so might look "ok" on the front 9" wide wheel?

235/40R19 are a bit tall but probably ok if the car isn’t lowered. If you haven’t bought tires yet I’d probably go with 245/40R18 on 8.5” wheels. But if you have the 235/40R19’s already, they will work.

For my TTRS, i'm running 235/35R19's on a 19x9" wheel lol. No problems whatsoever with the electronics or otherwise. 25.5" tall vs 26.1" stock. Nice boost in acceleration and handling and better ride quality with the superlight 19x9's from unsprung weight loss. I wouldnt go smaller, the tires are def stretched a bit but car runs and handles beautifully.

Audi fitment is 235/35R19 square. The front wheel is ET25, while the rear is ET46. Not a lot of wheels will clear the front caliper.

On the 8V I fitted 225/40R19 and there was just enough room. Since the 8Y has wider 265 tires (255 on 8V) I would expect that a 235/40R19 would fit, but cannot confirm.

I'm currently running the PA4's in 245 35 19 and there is rubbing on the drivers side wheel cowling. Just a heads up. 19x8.5 ET 43 square set up.
