    SQ8 rear-end aftermath

So, a couple of months ago I was minding my own business at a stop light and got lightly rear-ended (most of the damage was sadly taken by my 1UP bike rack and my exhaust).

I was always curious if this RS bumper mod would work, but never planned on modding a perfectly good bumper to find out. Lots of supply chain delays and body shop communication later, I got to find out first-hand:

If anyone is curious, you need the visible parts as well as the plastic bumper guides underneath (comes out to about $1300 in parts).

I actually also started sourcing the bottom portion but changed my mind in favor of keeping it “S” looking with the quad exhaust tips. As a result, I have a set of oval tips and related brackets lying around if anyone wants to buy them off me.

While I was in there, I had the exhaust valves welded permanently in the open position, allowing the S-mode exhaust sound even while shifting in D-mode. I reached out to Daniel who makes the exhaust valve bypass plug for the B9 3.0T cars, and used 2 of them for same effect on the SQ8 (preventing any kind of error code). This works as expected.

Oh and I finally got to see the port-installed “sport exhaust” upgrade up close. The primary resonator is replaced with this “H-pipe”:

    Happy Friday!

So I've been wondering about this for my SQ7. They advertise it as "easily installed", but it looks welded on to me. What am I missing? I'd love to try one, but not if I have to find someone to cut out the resonator and weld it in, and certainly not if isn't easily reversible if I feel it wasn't worth the sound difference afterwards.

Yeah, easily installed by welding lol. I think you should go for it, it’s still quiet enough (I.e. it doesn’t sound aftermarket).

This might be bolt-on and reversible.
