What a 10 second car does to engine mounts…

Since it doesn’t seem like the computer is going to allow much more power without nitrous or aftermarket sensor solutions, I decided to put some money into maintenance and likely keeping the car. I actually thought, of all things, just the transmission mount would be shot, but surprisingly, it was the only mount that wasn’t destroyed! Both engine mounts were completely separated, with one leaking, however I replaced all 3 mounts anyway with new ones from ECS. The wonderful Tulsa, OK roads also likely caused one of my front struts to leak, so I did all new Bilstein B6 electronic shocks/struts, since the cost of one from Audi was $900+, and all 4 Bilstein were about $1800. Lastly, all new brakes and rotors (stock pads with rotors from ECS), transmission fluid change, oil change, and diff service! These cars aren’t cheap to maintain, but at least that should be everything I’d possibly need at 67k miles. I don’t drive the car a ton and bought it with 63k almost a year ago, and I don’t believe the dealership did much of a recon service on this before selling it since cars were bringing so much money in any shape. My used bmws were always nearly new cars when I got them from dealers (tires, fluids, brakes, chip and wheel repair etc), this one just got an oil change, and I was told I’d need brakes soon, so some issues may have been pre existing.

Anyway, enjoy what’s left of the mounts 😂

Are the ECS upgrades in any way? I wouldn't get another fluid solution when 034 has an upgraded compound version with no fluid to ever leak

They are solid rubber mounts, I didn’t go with OE knowing I’d have the same issue later.

The mounts he purchased are our Street Density Mounts (034-509-5041) - he purchased them through ECS.

How do you like them so far!

I watched the intro video announcing them, I'm a bit low miles (38k) to need them yet but when I notice mine looking bad I'll be grabbing these for sure!

Not a pleasant install, but overall wasn’t bad. If you’re mechanically inclined, figure 4 hours or so, if not, 6. The mounts aren’t tough, they are just in a pain in the ass area, and there are a couple ways to do them.

Believe it or not, I’ve put a total of 20 miles on that car in 6 weeks. I just got back from a long work trip and heading out on another, and I still have more stuff to install if I have time before I leave. I plan to do some testing and dragy runs soon though. I don’t imagine having destroyed mounts was doing anything for my launches.

Were there any other symptoms besides leaking fluid? I'm almost to 50K, and inspected the mounts the best I could about 3 months ago, when I was experiencing a weird thud (loose 034 strut brace), but they showed no leakage. I thought they had connectors and would throw a code if busted...

I was getting a thunk on hard launches, and saw evidence of movement with the intake tube rubbing in places it didn’t before, that weren’t close when the engine wasn’t running, so there was definitely more movement inside the engine bay.

What are your thoughts on the Bilstein B6 shocks/struts? Is there a noticeable difference in ride or handling characteristics? I'm in the same situation where I have the front drivers side strut leaking and trying to decide to just replace it with an OEM one or replace all of them with the B6s.

They are on backorder currently, but weren’t a ton more than the B4 series (OE replacement I believe), so I bought them while they were on sale at ECS. It says Jan-Feb, but who knows if Bilstein is accurate with ship times. I’m hoping they are here when I get home in Feb so I can toss them on, then I will do a full review on them, and weather permitting, some track and dragy tests. My car is stupid consistent on street tires and slicks so it should be easy to tell the difference.

I am pretty sure my mounts on my 19 S4 on the Stage 1+ E85 tune are on their way out, I am getting the clunk noise as well on launches.

So how doable is it on the garage floor say using a quick jack that will have the car 2'-3' up off of the garage floor? I looked thru the 034 install document, as of now I am planning on ordering mine in March and then putting them on this spring. Do we need any specialized tools to handle the install?

So I finally took the car out today. I can say with great confidence that my stock mounts were prob not in the best of shape when I bought the car, and then my power level and launches must have destroyed them. World of difference in a few ways, but the most specific for me are the lessening of resonance and noise from the chassis, exhaust etc. I’m sure the engine must have been moving around a ton before, and I contributed some of the rattles and noise to life with larger than stock aftermarket parts, louder exhaust, and age. I’m happy to say I even enjoy driving the car in dynamic with the exhaust open now, where as before it just put me in a bad mood. You will notice some more feedback at idle, but these mounts may break in a little and soften up as well, especially with warmer months coming (it’s 40 degrees and they have 10 miles on them). I haven’t beat on the car because it has a tank of 6 week old e85 in it, so if I get time to top it off before I leave town again tomorrow, I will go have some fun with it :)

I don’t have brand new factory mounts at my power level to compare to, just the 67k mile stockers with 30+ 10 second passes on them, so your experience may vary.
