    New Battery Fitted (S7)

    Hey Guys,

So there is a lot of chatter just now about new battery fitment on the platform, so thought Id just give you a quick update on mine.

The car has been a bit sluggish to start for a while now, and the battery would often be flat after a week of the car not being driven (just coming out of Covid lockdown here in the UK)

The car is a 2016 model, and the original installed battery was a Varta 92Ah 520CCA AGM with a PR-J0B OEM code.

I had a look at the VCDS Logs for the battery, with the below results (Note this was after standing overnight, and logs taken with ignition on, engine off)

As you can see some of the readings are low, which Ive taken as a sign to change the battery, rather be caught out.

As Im often away for periods of time, I decided to put in the largest AGM battery that I could fit, so I installed a Varta 105Ah 950CCA AGM. You can see the physical size difference between the batteries below.

I also decided to add a remote battery monitoring device, and found this on Amazon (links below pictures) This connects to your mobile device via Bluetooth, and gives you a pretty thorough report on the battery health, as well as records daily.

Top screen view of battery monitor.

Purchase links FYI (If they dont work for you, search for "Auto Battery Monitor BM2"
    Amazon UK
    Amazon USA

Space is pretty tight in the S7, and the wires on the monitor aren't very long, so here is where I ended up mounting it (note -ve connection bolted to the air tank

    Cheers Guys,
    John.

John, I noticed you ran the ground (BM2) to a screw in the trunk vs to the negative side of the battery.

Is this method more of a safety protocol ?

I did not see this write up till today. I installed one of these monitors and wired it the same. If I remember correctly, it was access to negative because of that cover. The wires would reach both posts, but could be longer. If you add wire, you probably could make it work to both posts. I just did not want to add wire.
