    Sunroof Shade Seems Disconnected

My kids sunroof shade seems to have lost its ability to slide forward with the sunroof from the full open position. The sunroof opens normally and pulls the shade open, but then it will not come forward again unless it gets pulled manually. When fully open the shade disappears into the roof but does not slide out again unless you get your hand in there and pull it. It seems like there is nothing to slide it forward when the glass moves forward towards the closed position.
I also noticed that the rear deflector pins on either side are disconnected and it has the common rattle. Does the cradle or carriage of the rear deflector pins have anything to do with the shade closing or being pushed forward?
    It's a 2008 A4 Quattro Sedan.
    Thanks

Ugh I can't recall what's connected to what but if it is rattling, I'd recommend taking it apart and seeing what is going on there. I had to lube everything in there. I used this video as a guide https://youtu.be/VrAqgXrYaow

Video is helpful. I see the little pins on the sides of the rear deflector hanging freely and see no sign of the plastic clip things or where they would mount. I guess the sunroof will be coming out.
Is there a recalibration for the sunroof to get it in the proper closed position after removing it?

As far as I remember, you just have to look and make sure it is even with the roof. Other than that there is no calibration.

Also, you can order plastic clips on ebay. Or there probably somewhere in there. I used one of wire hangers to hook and bring the moving mechanism up from the back. I ordered plastic clips from ebay but then found old ones inside there as well. I JB welded those clips in.

you have to remove the sunroof glass to fix it. make marks on the tabs so you know where your glass lines up for the roof.

theres good youtube videos on this now.

also use painters tape around the edges of the opening so your headliner doesnt get greased up.

i fixed mine this past spring because it had been rattling for over 2 years and i just kept putting it off. it really isnt a hard fix just takes a few hours to fish out the plastic clips that fall off back there.

what i did is reseated the clips with the diffuser bar thing undone, then reconnect the diffuser thing and use small zip ties around the clip and fastener that slides on the track, theres tiny bit of clearance under it to loop it through.

mine has not come undone since i fixed it. works flawlessly too now :)

    Excellent,
I ordered new clips from ebay in case I can't find them, but assume they are in there somwhere. Did you epoxy the clips back in or do the zip ties hold them in place and keep them from coming off again?

the zip ties keep them from coming off again. been 4 months now with no rattle and clips staying in place.

My recommendation would be to just jb weld them. Been over a year now and everything is holding up still on my car. Maybe use zipties to hold them it place while jb weld is setting in.

So as a follow up, this was the cause of the shade not popping out when closing the sunroof. Both clips were off and deflector was rattling.
All fixed now. Not too bad a job. Longest part was aligning the glass again.

Right around the time I wrote my last message, my sunroof started doing the same again. Clips were still in place because I jb welded them but the deflector popped out of them. I ended up popping it back in and then zip tied each side to ensure they stay in place. About 20 minutes of work. The longest part was fishing out the part with the clips. Thanks for the idea with zip ties.
