Need help with random component protection

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So randomly I got a weird component protection warning “please switch on the ignition to deactivate the component protection” on my mmi screen and now all of a sudden the radio does not play sound, I didn't do anything special so its weird that it was triggered somehow, is this a glitch or does the car really have component protection? This happened after plugging my obd scanner to check codes, any help would be much appreciated, and if it is component protection is there anyway to take it off with VCDS? Is there a way to get ODIS?

Probably need to start with a scan with VCDS and confirm the DTCs. Component protection active will show up as a DTC. VCDS cannot fix component protection. The process for ODIS registration is laid out at erwin.audiusa.com. Will be cheaper to just pay the one hour labor at the dealership to reset CP, though.

Okay thanks, do you think it would be in my best interest to get odis incase I decide to replace any modules that need CP coded out? I buy and sell audis so Im sure I will need it again someday, thanks for any input, also the battery is very small in the car and it was at 37% charge, could that play any roll in what Im experiencing?

This, but I'd do a hard battery reset (Disconnect the battery for a little while) before that.

Not likely. CP is a system whereby an id is programming into an EPROM in the device. When CP is configured in the vehicle, the ids are registered in a database stored in the CAN Gateway, J533. When the devices power up, they verify the id in the EPROM against that from the J533 database. If it's different, they drop into CP active mode, which disables functionality that varies with control module.

So there's either a comms issue, or something corrupted in the memory of one of the two relevant circuits.

37% is 37% state of charge, not 37% voltage. 37% SoC is something like 11.9v. Lower than you want to let a battery rest long durations at. But plenty for circuits to operate correctly. Start with RPM's recommendation. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Let it sit an hour. Connect it back. Turn on ignition, run a full scan, see what you get.
