Front Sway Bar Upgrade, Yes or No?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I already settled for the Rear Sway Bay offering from 034. However, has anyone considered upgrading their front sway bars?

I went ahead with Eurocode's USS front and rear sway bar setup, very happy with the results. The front bar definitely help absorb some bumps and smoothen out the suspension slightly. Corners much flatter too, the effects of the heavy pano roof has been reduced.

Can't speak for the SQ but when I installed the rear a few weeks before the front on my B8 S4, while the understeer was greatly reduced the initial turn in and nose heavy problems were all still there. With the front bar installed a lot of that was reduced and the initial turn in was much flatter.

Stiffening up the front would give you quicker steering response but also induce more understeer as to running a stiffer RSB only. The reason why 034 opted for a RSB only instead of a full front and rear is so that the vehicles that run them have more rotation and less understeer. A lot of other companies make stiffer front and rear sways which really help with the roll rate of the car in proportion to OEM.

Agreed, when the front bar went it the understeer came back a little bit.

Best of both worlds is to have coilovers or B8/new springs and a rear sway to really improve the handling properly (on my short list to do here shortly)

Thank you for the feedback, I am definitely going with 034’s rear sway bar along with their end links for the Q5.

A little off topic, do you think I may reap the same benefits for my A6 station wagon by doing just the rear sway bar or should I do the front as well? I feel like the Avant is very nose / front heavy

Most VAG products with the exception of Porsche are similar in that a RSB and suspension does a LOT to liven up the car and driving dynamics. Most Audi's are still nose heavy but active suspension has changed that a bit.
In your case, an RSB would def help.

What are the advantages to coil overs vs springs, struts, and shocks?

Thanks for the suggestions, does the front strut brace (034 Motorsport) help with the alleviating under steer? I noticed they don't have a front sway bar upgrade option as they see it differently. I do admire their solid sway bar options though versus Eurocode's welded design

The chassis braces will not help understeer, they only improve steering precision. Swaybars, tire size, tire pressure, springs, and camber alter understeer characteristics

I upgraded both front and rear swaybars (Eurocode) on my B8 S4 (essentially the same chassis as the Q5), and have been very happy with the results.

The only B8 Q5 swaybar sets (front and rear), are Eurocode EC0202-0401R (32mm hollow, 25.5mm hollow) and H&R 72092 (32mm solid, 26mm, solid).

I bought the H&R set for my Macan, and I will put the factory Macan bars (31.5mm hollow, 24.5mm solid) on my B8 SQ5 (30mm hollow, 22mm solid). Two upgrades for the price of one!

Tirerack.com has the best price ($617 plus tax, free shipping) on the H&R 72092, but I had to wait 2 months for them to ship (backordered).

I know this post was from a minute ago but were the macan bars a direct fit for the B8 Sq5?

I didn’t look at the 034 pieces, if they are harder rubber or sphericals they will transfer the load from the suspension movement quicker, basically the bar will respond a tiny bit faster without the deflection of a softer rubber.

If they are length adjustable you can use that feature to remove any pre load from the bar.
For a street car neither of these handling feature will be an “OMG” feeling if you even notice at all. Aftermarket units may be built a bit better and possibly last longer.

I want to share my experience of upgrade the front and rear sway bars.
After reading the message from S4'ed about the replacement of sway bars from Macan to Q5, I started to study this issue.
    Information sway bars Audi Q5, SQ5 Front 8R0411309C - 29.7mm, rear 8R0311305Q - 22.5mm.
Macan sway bars information and what is needed for installation:
    Front sway bar
    — 95B411309A
    — 95B411309C
    — 95B411309E - the maximum rigidity - 31.5 mm
    - Sway Bar Bushings 4D0411327J x2

    Rear sway bar
    — 95B511305
    — 95B511305A - 25.7 mm
    — 95B511305H – 24.5 mm
    — 95B511305J – 25mm – not sure
    — 95B511305E - the maximum rigidity - 26.2 mm
    - Sway Bar Bushings 95B511035 x 2
    - Clamps 95B511439 x2
    - Bolts N10695701 x4
    - Sway Bar End Link 95B505465 x 2

The best setting is E+E, but I did not find rear sway bar E available on the secondary market. I will say right away that I considered buying only on the secondary market, so front E+ rear A was purchased in excellent condition. I installed it myself without any problems.
What I got in general is a faster and clearer reaction to the steering wheel, got rid of insufficient steering and reduced body roll during sharp turns. I am satisfied with the obtained result in terms of car handling and considering the cost of this upgrade, I consider it an excellent price/result ratio.

This is awesome information, thanks. Just picked myself up the same E + A setup on ebay for cheap. Can't wait to install. Has this mod increased NVH for you?

As far as the rear A vs E…
A is hollow, thought to increase surface area translating to increased stiffness. Is E solid or hollow?

Curious about just doing a rear sway bar upgrade. Made a world of difference on my S5 (front upgrade isn't considered necessary on the S). What about on the Q?

So A&E may just be equivalent in rigidity, being A is only slightly smaller. I remember back in the day getting hollow away bars for my GTI VR6 on the claim that a hollow away bar has more surface area, compared to the solid Neuspeed at the time. Great informative post my man. Thank you…

I’ve just bought the Macan rear one: 95B511305E.
Does it fit in an Audi A4 B8?

No, the B8 Q5 / Macan bars do not fit a B8 A4/S4, as the A4/S4 bars are shorter in length.
The longer Q5 / Macan bars are the same length as the C6 A6/S6 bars.
