    Macan or another sq5

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I’m thinking about something new. My sq5 is at 55000 miles. Going on four years soon. Anybody drive a 22 macan gts? I’m just now starting the hunt.

    Thanks

It seems like a no-brainer to get a Macan GTS if it’s in your budget.

Anyone here telling to get another SQ5 instead is just stupid.

Lol. Well I guess I’m wondering if anyone here has driven one that’s not an influencer. I’m just trying to find out if the sq5 is really anywhere close to the macan. We have a 21 rs5 and love the motor. It’s the same one they use for the gts. Wish they did a rsq5.

For pure driving dynamics the Macan is the much better choice.

It's "only" the S but the driving dynamics should be similar. Fast forward to about 8 minutes (in the shop) if you don't want to watch the entire thing.

I had a tuned macan turbo a few cars before my SQ5.

It was a 2017 so seemingly at that time WAY faster and more upscale than at that time than the B8.5.

When I was looking for my now B9.5, I went to look at macans. For the price for a similar optioned 2.0T macan….

As for the GTS, if you are willing to pay a good $20-$25k more, sure go for it.

The Mecan is a beautiful car, if I could have fit it in the budget it would be parked in the garage. GTS is going to really add to the fun factor.

Test drove a 22 Macan S a little while back. Did not feel as fast or responsive as my sq5. Though I was running jb4 at the time.

Wife also didn’t like the interior as much. Felt no full digital dash was kinda cheap. Skinny steering wheel. Some turbo lag. Less interior room. Anyway, you’ll want the GTS if you are going to get one. Comparing to the S you’ll be happier with the SQ5.

I picked up a Volcano Grey 2018 Macan GTS with 7000k miles that had just been turned back in to the dealer by a Porsche executive when I lived back in VA. I kept her for two and half years and sold her with 18K miles to a lil old lady in AZ after moving out West who offered me almost the same I paid for her...

The 2020 SQ5 replaced the Macan but I miss much about the GTS and would like to have had both. I've told the lil lady that I get first dibs when she's ready. I saw a 2022 GTS in CA a few months ago and darn...they sure look good. They're also a rare breed and keep their value...get it !! Keep an eye on dealerships around the country as the Porsche Executives love them and turn them back in about every 6 months ...ask me how I know :) ?

I have my eye on a couple that have really low miles. The gts’s seem to be sitting a bit longer on the lots now. I’m wondering if the economy will push the prices down a bit. I’m so used to getting 6 to 10% off my cars that this new world we live in is driving me nutz. Lol

I’m tired of the sq5 beating me up lowered. The macan just looks good as is. So I don’t think I will have to modify it. Our rs5 rides so much better than the sq5. I was really surprised by that. It just soaks up the shity roads here.

    A 375hp Macan S feels slower than a JB4-tuned SQ5. You don't say...

Macan GTS on the track is actually fun, much sharper handling...but this was in 2019 the last time I did a Porsche full model line track day.

Back then they had the non-haptic buttons (which I like) and it part of why I was OK with buying the SQ5 when my C5 S6 avant died...it was a 8 or 9/10 version of the Macan for way less.

My wife and I were invited to a Porsche driving experience last fall and got to drive the Macan S out on a road course. After driving most of their lineup, we both came away from the experience lusting for a 911 S, but also with the knowledge that my '20 SQ5 (with an 034 Stg1 tune) was the obvious winner in terms of performance and styling. No regrets!

We went to my local dealer today and looked around a bit. As soon as we walked back to my sq I told my wife mines better looking. We stood around our local dealer here in Kansas City for about 20 min and no one came and asked us if they could help us.

We own a 2016 Macan S with Cobb stage 2, intake, Intercoolers, Bilstein suspension, PSE etc, Picked up a 2018 SQ5 last week to replace the Macan and my first impression was pretty good.
Let me start by saying that I'm a Porsche Mechanic, I work mostly on air cooled cars but I'm still biased, the reason for the change was that the Macan does not have A/S and having a baby I wanted something more comfortable without breaking the bank.
So far I love the SQ5, in stock shape as it is today It feels faster than the Macan S in stock shape, the upgrades cost about 40/50% less than any Porsche upgraded part which is cool, the gearbox on the SQ5 feels better than the super slow to react fake PDK on the Macan, yes, the SQ5 feels lighter, the steering is too soft for my taste, the paddle sifters feels like you are playing video games, the Macan has metal levers and you can feel them, the SQ has that plastic feeling, I still can't figure out how to set up all those displays, probably because I spend my life around Porsche cars I found it easier to do so on the Macan without even looking at the user manual.
Overall, if you like driving hard they are both great vehicles, if you have the extra cash (quite a lot) and don't mind spending it just to get a more sporty feeling go for the Macan, in my case for that kind of feeling I own a 996 Turbo which feels like 100 years old compared to any of the previously mentioned vehicles and I love it.
The SQ5 wins in interior space, if you need to use your rear seats, kids, family, etc keep the SQ5, the Macan rear space is much smaller than the Audi.
    Cheers

I prefer the interior and exterior styling of the SQ, but that 2.9 twin turbo and PDK is massive boner-fest.

My thoughts exactly. I’m beginning to think the Porsche has the nicer interior the more I look online. But maybe I’m just trying to justify why I’m an idiot. Lol

Unless you really want to stay with VAG, I would strongly consider a X3M. Power potential is amazing, and the styling and interior is a notch above the SQ in my opinion

Power yes but the ride is unapologetically harsh from what I’ve heard.

    Great car however.

Do you have air ride on the sq5? I wouldn’t get one without it after having it. I was seriously considering a glc43 due to air ride standard. But the interior and shift stick kinda turning me off. And no inventory to test drive.

I was only running map 5 with e85 mix lol. Anyway I was convinced to keep the sq5 and now on IE 93 tune. Contemplating if I should also get Stage 2TCU. Keeping the car for a bit.

100% agree. Sold our 2019 SQ5 at 30k miles and 'wanted' to move to a Macan S. Drove one, completely uninspiring and felt sedated compared to the stock SQ5. Just ordered a 2023 SQ5 from KC Audi today.

I feel like the next move should be to something electric. Should be some nicer VAG options in a couple years.

Yeah, this was also very surprising to me. I was expecting more sportiness for a twin turbo. Can’t go wrong with the SQ5.

I’d sell the rs5 and order a 992 gts4 but wait times are 1-2 years. Fuck I might be dead by that time.

I have a 992 C4S on order and yes they said “early 2023” but yes I’m not holding my breath. The earth will implode by then I’m sure.

Just always remember that as a Macan Driver, you will forever be the laughing stock of all of the other porsche drivers, when you could be a king among men in the Audi community with a big turbo’d SQ5.

What made you pick c4s instead of gts4? Price?

If you have the ability to drive an X3M I would highly suggest it. Reviewers seem to really exaggerate the firmness of the ride and after owning one I can attest that it's not harsh at all. If you have any experience with performance cars and sporty suspension (judging by your signature I would say yes lol) then I think you would love it. It's firm but I've never once felt like wow this is too rough. If you compare it to a Cadillac or something meant for purely comfort then yeah it may seem too firm. In return your getting an suv that handles like a large hatchback.

I went from a B9 S4 to the X3M and it's been awesome. I'm not even an SUV guy either haha

I’ve heard the new face lifted ones have a revised suspension and are more compliant. Never driven one but if it was in my budget I probably would have gone x3m over my sq5 as well. Only thing I wish the x3m had was air suspension for the versatility
