Winter Driving School with Audi club

I attended the winter driving school at Team O'Neal in Dalton NH organized by the Audi club (North Atlantic chapter). The weather was just PERFECT it was 2 days of just awesome fun sliding the RS6 around the various slalom courses. The RWS in the car is just fantastic it makes the car feel so much smaller when going around cones.

I was in RS2 mode with ESC fully off and manual shifting so I could keep the car in 2nd gear the whole time. The instructors were great and I got a lot of seat time.

My only issue (if you can call it that) was that since there are so many rapid corrections you have to make with the steering wheel to correct over/under steers, I kept hitting the buttons on the steering wheel when I would make those rapid turns - so annoyingly the dash view would keep changing. Luckily the the car stayed in the RS2 mode even if I hit the RS button by mistake since that requires a longer press to change the mode - that was a good call from Audi.

I would very highly recommend checking this out next year if you are in the area - although we had folks coming in all the way from Philly and upstate NY.

Having issues uploading pics - will try to resolve it.

Fantastic! I wanted to do that, but was a little nervous about taking my RS7 there in terms of potential car damage. What kind of track/course did they have - was it wide open with a lot of room for failure to go in the right direction, or were there things that the car could hit and get damaged by if you screwed up too much?

The track was prepped well it was packed snow and they had a couple of slalom courses set up just like in a traditional autocross with the mini orange traffic cones. Couple of times I hit the cones and one time it got stuck between the wheel well and the tire - but they don't cause any damage. The outside of perimeter of the course is a snow bank - so I guess if you really went out of control you would go into a snow bank but there will not be any damage to the car even in that scenario because your speeds are really low - 15-20 mph at most.

We did not have a single instance of anyone going into the snow bank in 2 days - lots of cone incidents, but again no damage.

Awesome, thanks - not worried about cones in the slightest (done plenty of autocross and track days and I've hit my fair share of cones :)). It's more the "oops, I wound up in a big snow bank and my car's side is staved in" scenario I'd want to avoid, but that sounds like it's not an issue.

Team O'Neill is the absolute best bang for the buck if you want to improve your driving skills. Great group and you'll never find a better place to fine-tune your car control!

My endorsement for Team O'Neill. You'll never get the same bang for the buck at a racing school. Probably the best money I've ever spent to enhance my skills, and certainly the most fun. 160mph at COTA is fun, but the level of skill required to put together a good run, in these conditions, makes it extremely rewarding. As one picture demonstrates, you end up spending more time looking out the side windows than you do looking out the windshield!
