Heated steering wheel malfunction after swap

I have the cold weather package on my s4. I just installed a RS3 wheel that does not have the heated option. I’m now getting a warning message for heated steering wheel malfunction, I was hoping the car wouldn’t detect it but I knew it could happen. What are my options to get the error message to go away? I plan on swapping the heated wheel back in during winter also. Super awesome upgrade, honestly feels like a whole new car

Check to see if you can code out the heated steering wheel with OBD11 or VCDS

Look for B9 A4/S4/A5/S5 threads about retrofitting the heated steering wheel. Look for what they had to change regarding coding and adaptations. Do the reverse of that.

There's a connector in the steering wheel hub that is left unused without the heating steering wheel wiring. It just needs a resistor put in place of the connector. A 3 ohm resistor should work.

Do you happen to have active lane assist?

That's a bad idea. And if you hit the heated wheel button and start roasting that resistor with current flow?

There is no more heated wheel button after replacing to flat bottom. Those come with the multifunction programmable button, remember? The error message pops up for like 2 seconds when you start the car then goes away, it's really not that intrusive...

    Doh, right.

Still, closing a heater circuit with an incorrect element sounds like a bad idea vs just adjusting the control module configuration. Or as you point out, just ignore the message.

I think I may just deal with ignoring it but was curious if it was easy to get rid of

It's not something you can code out. You'd have to replace the steering stalks for that

Well funny enough the rs3 wheel I bought came with the entire steering column… seems like more hassle than it’s worth. Especially since I want to swap the wheel back during the winter months

You can't use the RS3 stalks anyway; the B9 stalks integrate the J527 control module.
