Would this improve a 2019 SQ5 with B&O as well?

I would say yes if your sub is indeed out of phase.

How do I determine if it’s out of phase? Move the fader front to back and if bass gets louder in the front it’s out of phase?

the OEM sub in the sportback isn’t out of phase. It’s a combination of how it’s placed along with Audi sound engineers opinion when it came to tuning the system. The OEM set up competes with the door speakers. The fix kit makes it so it doesn’t compete, by changing the phase.

Repinned my 2018 S5 SB's sub today, and wow...feels like I added a powered 10" sub to the car!
Definitely a cheap and easy upgrade, making the B&O Audio sound like how I expected it to.

Kicker CompRT 48CWRT672 in place of stock 6.75" woofer (encloser laced with polyfill)
    Kicker 47KEY5001 Amp (Key 500.1)
    Kicker CK8 wiring kit
    Bruce Miranda/Mironics subwoofer splitter cable
Basser Box (sourced from Maxxcount.DE to avoid importation issues) - Also laced with polyfill
    JL Audio 10W1V3-2
    JL Audi SGRU-10

Rather than ripping apart my Bruce Miranda/Mironics cable, my factory location sub wiring/box, and/or custom RCA cables - I made the decision to simply de-pin the factory harness at the source, flip the wires, and hit everything at once.

    Before:

    Attachment 271162

    After de-pinning, and re-installing with a reverse polarity/phase

    Attachment 271163

Bruce Miranda/Mironics cable back in place

    Attachment 271164

Fully back together (before carpet and all-weather mat re-installation)

    Attachment 271165

I can honestly say the difference is well welcomed - I always thought the bass was a bit "boomy" and fell off down low. Not sure if there is a placebo effect or not, but all of that seems to be remedied.

Sample size is still relatively small, I still need to fiddle with a few settings, and I need to re-run the Kicker Key algorithms. Regardless, I truly feel we're in a better spot now with my system than before I did the change.

Thank you for the recommendation - I never even thought to check polarity/phase!

Hey I was really curious about the 6.75” kicker is that running off the B&O amp ??

Marginal upgrade, at best. I think adding poly fill to the box helped more than swapping out the driver.

was let down by the Bang and Olufsen sound in my car, could barely hear the lows and had to crank the bass, which distorted mids and such throughout the cabin. google searched "Audi S5 bang and olufsen sounds like trash" and this was the first link that popped up. took ten minutes, simply crossed the black and the green wire and the orange and yellow and BOOM.

no longer feel like i need a better system. sounds spectacular (in comparison) whereas before it was lacking horribly. lows sound great and now i dont have to blare the bass, a much clearer, higher quality sound.

    thanks guys!!

bought the wiring kit, made a huge difference and wiring kit is worth every penny because you don't have to remove the stock wiring which is like glued or wedged down to solder

You'll want to buy this tool kit, if you don't already have it or something similar.

Basically, you flip 1,2 and 3,4 (when looking at the connector from left to right). Basically, new wiring looks like this = 2,1,4,3

I am following your instructions to repin the connector but having some issues. I believe I'm using the right tool and inserting it in the right holes, but when I pull on the wire on the opposite side it doesn't come out. Not sure how hard I should pull - don't want to break anything.

Does the red lock have to be removed completely?

    Appreciate any tips!

    Here are my recommendations.

You could just buy my Sub Fix Kit for $65 shipped within the US. B&O Subwoofer Fix Kit - Sportback - https://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=970468

If you can’t muster up the $65, I don’t recommend repinning on the car side. Do it on the sub side. I recommend this method because if you or someone adds a sub later, the car side will have the correct wiring pattern.

Keep in mind, nothing with the OEM setup is wired incorrectly. Changing the phase just a way of reengineering the sound profile.

Got it sorted out. There's a secondary lock mechanism in the connector. I did some digging on the connector type "7N0 972 704" and stumbled upon a helpful video illustrating the unlocking process on a Tiguan with the same connector: https://youtu.be/4q5wATIVYow.

You just have to use a pick to open the secondary lock. Once that's open the wires come out super easy with a pin extractor tool. Not sure why it would be difficult to return to stock, it takes all of 5 minutes (one you figure out how the connector works). If you're not comfortable tinkering with wiring though, opting for the cable is a wise choice. I will probably end up getting one myself when I inevitably add a sub. I wanted to witness the difference firsthand before making that call.

    My review, if anyone cares:

In my honest assessment, the improvement is staggering. I'm coming from a B9 A4 and the S5's sound system had been a huge letdown. Prior to the swap, turning up the subwoofer dial barely yielded any noticeable increase in bass; in fact, it sounded worse. After the pin swap, I have the subwoofer set to -1 and the bass set to 0 and there is plenty of clean, defined bass. With an engineering background and connections in the audio field, I like to think I possess a discerning ear. In my opinion, the factory wiring exhibits evident signs of phase cancellation across a wide range of frequencies. Reversing the polarity remedies this issue, eliminating any perceivable phase cancellation across the frequency spectrum (at least to my ears - I'm sure you could measure some with an oscilloscope). It not only enhances the subwoofer's output, the bass speakers in the door also experience a noticeable improvement, as they no longer are "fighting" the subwoofer.

For the engineer behind the system, for their sake, I sincerely hope this miswiring hypothesis is true... that's how much better it sounds reversed.

It’s really not, but if it makes you sleep better at night thinking that…you do you.

lol something is wrong. its not just about 'rephasing" the sub for a different sound profile.

the OEM wiring/setup is absolute trash. doesnt make me sleep better, makes my music sound the way it should. not broken.

just curious, where did you get the diagram for your test to know that the black is negative and the other wire is positive? and the orange and yellow also?

Just installed iampraneel's wiring fix to my 2018 S5 Sportback's B&O subwoofer. Huge difference! I'm pretty upset that it took me this long to apply this fix and that Audi never addressed the out of phase subwoofer. Thank you Iampraneel for the easy solution.
